What is the average half-life of a thread on DU?
Sometimes it takes me a few minutes to reply to a post, finding some supporting documentation or just composing a reply, and when I do post it, sometimes just 5 or 10 minutes after the original post...there have already been 5 or 10 replies and nobody is looking at that thread any more.

Seriously, stuff dies so fast here it seems like it's not worth writing a response with any substance - anything that takes more than a minute or two will not be read. How long is the "window of opportunity" to respond to a thread before it is dead and buried?

2. I reply to stuff thats hours, sometimes days old
if I have a strong opinion on it. My typing sucks, so I agree, after I find the article or whatever that I want to site, its probably already too late to throw it out there, but do it anyway!. I'm the last post on a good portion of my 70 some post. I'm new so just getting a grip. No big deal, I still read allot more than I ever respond to (dangling something or other....), and enjoy the opinions and links presented. I think thats really the value of this site.

5. welcome splat@14!
otherwise known as a threadkiller :hi:
j/k

post away, and remember even if you are the last post, you just kicked it back up to the top...maybe someone else will jump in and add, at least someone else read the thread if it's at the top, etc.

DU has it all, and my only complaint is there isn't enough time to read it all.

Peace.

3. I agree threads don't last long. Seems like many are 2-3 hours. But
lots of good stuff rises to the top.

6. you post on a thread, brings it back to the top.
sometimes people are interested in reply sometimes not, and sometimes people dont read replies, enough to read post/

the board os fast moving, that i like, i hook onto threads where i continually go into to see what else has been said. others that dont interest me that much, one read and i dont go back into thread

7. This three fingered typist ......
.... shares your pain.

The upside is ... this site's hot. The downside .... we slow typists either do drive by postings (of the 'ha ha' or 'fuck you/that' variety) or we get left in the dust!

8. it depends on the forum sometimes
lbn threads keep coming back to the top. lounge posts are manic (a newbie called du 'manic' a couple weeks ago - lol). gd seems to be the middle of the road with threads that hang a while or disappear. there are some other political forums, too, that have continual discussions instead of just flippant responses and death.
