US May Allow Nuke strikes over WMD - hunh?

http://www.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/getarticle.pl5?nn20050502a3.htm

The U.S. military is considering allowing regional combatant commanders to request presidential approval for pre-emptive nuclear strikes against possible attacks with weapons of mass destruction on the United States or its allies, according to a draft nuclear operations paper.

The March 15 paper, drafted by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is titled "Doctrine for Joint Nuclear Operations," providing "guidelines for the joint employment of forces in nuclear operations . . . for the employment of U.S. nuclear forces, command and control relationships, and weapons effect considerations."

"There are numerous nonstate organizations (terrorist, criminal) and about 30 nations with WMD programs, including many regional states," the paper says in recommending that commanders in the Pacific and other theaters be given an option of pre-emptive strike against "rogue" states and terrorists and "request presidential approval for use of nuclear weapons" under set conditions.

Creating a treaty committing nuclear powers not to use nuclear weapons against countries without nuclear weapons remains one of the most contentious issues for the 35-year-old NPT regime.

1. Don't you get it?
If a "WMD" site (snicker snicker) is nuked, you CAN'T prove WMDs were never there.

2. And who will determine the presence of those dreaded weapons?
The same folks who "knew" that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction near Tikrit -- somewhat north, east, south and west of there?

This is nothing more than seeking a legal license to engage in mass murder and genocide. If this policy is instituted, I hope the other countries of the world embargo the United States and cut it off from the family of nations.

3. The thing I don't get
is why is it our business to go around and tell other countries they can't protect themselves? The Bush administration are evil bastards and you never know when they're going to attack you. We have a lot of WMD's here in our country but you don't see Bush telling them not to use them. I just hate these arrogant asses.

4. Hello, Hello Dimitri?
You know how we've always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the bomb. The bomb, Dimitri. The hydrogen bomb. Well now what happened is, one of our base commanders, he had a sort of, well he went a little funny in the head. You know. Just a little... funny. And uh, he went and did a silly thing.

5. These people are MAD with power! Dr. Strangelove would be proud
Iran is a threat?? BS!

If Iran obtains a nuke it will be as a DETERRENT not to be as an offense weapon. What would Iran have to gain by launching a nuclear strike against one of its neighbors?
