The Runaway Bride
I am extremely upset at the coverage that CNN is giving the story of the woman in Georgia who ran away before her marriage. At one point CNN did a segment that lasted about 20 or more minutes. CNN is not the only one MSNBC did a long segment on the subject and ABC morning news started its show with the story. My main problem with this is that I contend it is a non-issue. A woman ran away so what tell the people then move on a do not mention it that much. There are so many other stories like the fact that Lyndie England took a plea deal and the story about the kid who stuck other kid with a needle and may have exposed some of the kids to HIV are real stories that the public should be informed about. Since I started watching the news this morning I have only seen the England story on my local station. The HIV/kids story was reported on later in the ABC news show. I have been away from the TV for a few minutes so they may have reported these stories, but they should be the stories that get in depth coverage not the stupid stories.

2. true, but that's par for the course
Either an abduction or Michael Jackson. Anything to avoid actual reporting. It's on 24/7 now. Not just a 20 minute segment.

3. All the cable news networks on on this 24/7 this morning
it keeps them from having to cover what's really going on in this country and in the world.

22. It's disgusting
I hate how the MSM is. If it wasn't for places like DU and other website's I visit and CSPAN I wouldn't get any real news at all. *sigh* Just this nonsense.

23. in terms of broadcast: NPR and PBS
neither of them do 24/7. Nightline doesn't do much of this kind of shit. And of course there is the print media, which is always diverse in the stories it covers.

4. Cheap, Easy, Manufactured News
Again, look at the location: Georgia...right under the watchful eyes of CNNServative Central. Real easy to dispatch the trucks and the "personalities", like they did for that babe who was involved in the judge's shooting and the Schaivo circus in nearby Florida. It's cheap, it's easy, it's sensational.

This network is horrible in attempting to create its own stories inside stories or manufacturing news to draw an audience in its attempt to turn into Faux Lite. Read the comments of the new CNN head, Jonathan Klein, and expect more of this to come....a reason, I'm certain, Judy Woodruff decided to cash it in. Even a whore must have their limits.

Time/Warner fears this regime...who can fine their broadcast properties and deny access to their reporters...or they can play ball with the regime and everyone gets rich. This is just the byproduct of 25 years of dumbing down and "deregulation" in media that has destroyed competition and thus objective journalism. It just doesn't sizzle and sell.

6. ain't no such thing as television news - - its all infotainment
When "in depth coverage" consists of a three minute spot with more pictures than dialog, it is no wonder television new show are little more than gossip talk shows . . . And besides, with such a large percentage of Americans having apathy toward reading or thinking beyond that which is spoon-fed to them, the the MSN just gives them what they want . . . Sad, really . . .

8. "...its all infotainment..."----That's it in a nutshell.
And it's been getting worse, TV has always played up the celebrity gossip and the sensational crime stories, but it has gotten so that is ALL they do anymore.

7. I found their coverage hilarious. The MSM was pissed that they
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 08:39 AM by izzybeans
weren't going to have their next Scott Peterson. So they were working overtime to demonize this woman for having "cold feet". If you get to see any of the coverage from this morning-there is a veiled sneer hidden underneath the newsbot anchors normally cheery presentation. NOw they have not excuse not to cover the real news.

The reason no charges can be brought against this woman because the entire narrative of abduction was stirred up by the media frenzy. She just repeated it when she found out the MSM tried to profit from her running away. This is sweet vindication for all the time wasted on other "senstational" nonstories.

Thank you woman from Duluth. There's nothing like a little live action irony to point out the self-defeating nature of the MSM.

On edit: To John Stewart and company: Stories like this do write themselves. This should be the headline of Monday's show. I'll be watching in anticipation. I can here it now that idiot from CNN leading off "What was thought to be an abduction, or another case of a husband murdering his wife, has turned out to be a case of...uhmm well cold feet." Cut to JOhn. "Wha Whaa Whaaat? Ha ha."

20. Yes, exactly.
I was just appalled when I heard an interview with the fiance and the first thing he said was 'God answers prayers'. Well, really. And how was this an 'answer to your prayer'?? And what about all the prayers that are seemingly not answered, or answered with a 'no'? Like the family of Jacob Wetterling, Jessica Lunsford, Carlie Brucia, and thousands of others?

NOTHING makes me angrier than holier-than-thou types claiming that God loved them more because their loved ones are safe. So God hates the others, huh, nimrod?

17. What will tomorrow's diversion from Iraq be?
The sad thing is that whenever they need a diversion they can pick from thousands of similar stories, use the person who's most liable to invoke the most sypathy (innocent looking clean-cut white American girl with bulging eyes the size of swollen golf balls), and max it out until it becomes bigger than a tsunami. There are thousands of people who come up missing in this country all the time, but it just wouldn't be as interesting if the kidnapped person was short, fat, old, ugly, black, brown, bald, or homeless.

Kidnapping is sad and unfortunate, but M$M picks and chooses. Then they sensationalize. Anything to keep Bush's subjects from becoming informed about the mega-tragedies going on a half world away.

25. All Day
I know that for much of the day CNN was reporting on this story. I went out for a few hours and when I came back they were still reporting on the story. I think by this time they were interviewing one of her friends. Also, they were still reporting on the story this morning. The CNN show "On the Story" started off their show with that story.

26. Do yourself a favor and turn CNN off.
Many of us already have and we are better informed because we go to other sources to get the real news.

As long as you are watching, they will keep doing this. Be sure to write them a letter when you turn them off for good.
