Update on Andy's cancer surgery: donations needed.

Folks,

One of our DUers was able, through her wonderfulness, to get Andy into Johns Hopkins. The surgery is set for early the second week of May. This is the best venue for Andy and it's nothing short of miraculous that we've gotten this far.

While we're working to see if we can get a fee reduction, as of this minute, they want $25K up front. I wrestled with the finance department and that's the best deal I could get. I need to check back in with the hospital TOMORROW.

So, the clock is ticking and I need to raise this money. Andy's surgery cannot be put off.

I know I owe Andy a debt of gratitude for his work on securing our elections. I'm sure many of you have followed his work and feel the same way.

I was just thinking about this. I have jars of pennies around the house - here,there and everywhere. Roll them and take them to your bank to redeem and send that money to Andy. Or, if you are like me and hate to roll coins, go to CoinStar and redeem them.

Pennies add up and everyone has a bunch of pennies here and there.

we need to get this surgery for andy..he has a cancerous tumour on his pancreas..he has secured the best surgeon in the country to do the surgery..but we need to get him the money..as many of you know..he does not have health insurance because he was working on the voting machine fraud in ohio and florida..and then this happened..they found the tumour ...when he got jaundice in jan..he needs this surgery to remove the tumor..

and time is running out...

please please ..if you were going to shop for something frivolous..please put that money to helping andy..

insurance. He is a hero who has been a major front-line fighter in voting reform and exposing the stolen elections for years. He lives in Seattle and through miraculous arrangements is having his surgery done at the best place for it. Pancreatic cancer is one of the worst kinds, but it has been caught early enough that he has a chance if he is treated with great skill and knowledge. So this is a lifesaving cause.

One of the ways a lot of hospitals make money these days is by absolutely hammering uninsured patients.

As most of you know, if you are covered under an HMO or PPO, your plan negotiates fixed rates at the hospital. If I go in for appendicitis surgery under BlueCross, Hospital X may get $2500.00. If you go in under United Healthcare, Hospital X may get $2750.00. The billed amount may be $6000.00 but that does not matter.

However, if an uninsured patient goes in, he or she is charged the full $6000.00. It's a crazy system.

Anyway, one of the starting points for negotiating these contracts is what Medicare would pay. There's formulas that use the medicare rate as a constant.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what Hopkins would get if Andy had insurance.

... is fairly simple to negotiate. might take a day or two for registration to complete, but then, there you are!

i signed up several years ago, & have found it pretty easy to use.
