Why do you think Chimpy is doing this press conference tonite?
Given the fact that every time he opens his mouth, his approval ratings dip even lower.

The man has zero, ZERO, credibility.

and I suspect CBS will ignore it, as will Fox and NBC.

19. Yes, this is a last ditch, desperate play to get the public
to swallow all his bullshit on his social security ripoff. All it's going to do is increase the cognitive dissonance among people who think he's a swell guy but pick up on the fact that he's lying his ass off.

5. Good question.
I wonder who told him he needs to do this. I believe he will use it as more of an "informal" formal speech, with planted questions being lobbed by the corporate media. But he doesn't do well under the most artificial of circumstances. I plan to watch it, as repulsive as I find him.

I expect the press to fold like a napkin

The following questions should be asked

Mr.President what is YOUR plan for Social Security?

Mr.President why are you taking the unprecedented step of renominating previously rejected judges?

To learn that this Misadministration is responsible for nothing and if you think there are any problems -- that Bush is not responsible for -- then you must be a liberal elitist.

If I could get a one-day White House pass, and a break from my web escort duties, my first question for the president would be:

"Mr. President, if you truly care about the pain Americans are experiencing at the gas pump, wouldn't it have been better to have asked the crown prince to bend over so you could kiss his ass?"

15. I hope he doesn't preempt CSI
He does like preemptive action.

His speech is supposed to air at 5:30 here (L.A.) and Ch. 5 News expects it to throw off the whole night's programming. There goes The Simpsons.
I'll never understand why every single channel feels the need to show the exact same thing -- like the Popathon.

21. If that's true about attacking Democrats, then we need to
gear up TODAY and get those phones, emails, fax machines going as soon as he's signed off.

You know what? In a way, I hope he gets real nasty in his snickery, bullish way. People are pissed and they're not going to stand for him continuing to point fingers whining it's somebody else's fault. Remember..."Leadership". He'll fall flat on his face over that.

18. Listening to Thom Hartmann today...
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 01:15 PM by Norquist Nemesis
Every day he has a segment from a reporter of the WH Press Corps. (Can't think of her name). Anyway...she said today that it's caused so much controversy that it was addressed in this morning's gaggle with Scottie.

Apparently, what he's going to be doing (according to Victoria whats-her-name *scratches head*), is: 1) "talk" to the American people that he's wrapping up his 60 day tour on "educating the people about Social Security", and 2) talk about his energy plan.

Now, there's a couple of things to note about this. First, with the "educating" thing. That is Luntzspeak for manipulation. Bush is going to come out and claim victory, that the American people understand this is a situation that needs to be addressed. He throws the ball into Grassley's court (Grassley's been on in the last couple of days about it), and lets Grassley be the fall guy. BUT, Bush can claim victory! :woohoo:

Second, on the energy front...Bush is getting attacked especially with what he came out with yesterday. Many of the business muckymucks aren't happy (according to analysts), because 1) he's not addressing the situation in immediate terms to reducing dependancy, and 2) he threw them for a loop yesterday bringing out new things.

Lastly, because his ratings are tanking, advisor are urging him to get out in front of the people. Hey! Maybe he still has that hypnotic retro tie! LOL

24. I think he's doing the press conference for several reasons...
...and all of Junior's reasons are misguided--of course.

--His approval ratings are in the toilet. Somehow, this weasel thinks that his blathering can improve the low ratings.

--No one is buying into his SocSec plan. In fact, the more he discusses it, the more unpopular it becomes. I predict that he'll announce some kind of attitudinal shift in his plan, "I never said I wanted private accounts. It was just an idea!".

--The Bolton problems make him look ineffectual and weak. He'll try to make the Dems look bad on this one.

--He'll also be pandering to the religious zealots. They're pissed b/c their radical Jebus agenda isn't translating into real change--despite political control of Congress and the WH. Junior will be spewing some pro-life/anti gay/ rhetoric while sprinkling in some Bible verses--to appease the Biblemongers.

Basically, it's one big "crisis PR" intervention.

(In my humble opinion, of course)

31. The so called "press conferences" are nothing more than short,
scripted, one-act plays. The only thing that might make it worth watching is if one of the reporters grew a set and asked a question not previously vetted. (For example: "Your excellency, is it true you and the Bulldog had pajama parties every so often?" or "If I may be so bold, Sire, weren't you enjoying the Saudi hand holding ritual a little too much? Wasn't Condi irritated?")

32. Excellent question, CatWoman...
I think this is his "last push" for privatization of Social Security, because he does not know when he is whipped. Also, he is very conscious of his low polls. That's why Laura has been on all the TV shows - to try and help Dubya - in my opinion.

Also, he will attempt to shift all the blame for high gasoline prices to someone else other than himself. Most likely, it will be some unknown and unspoken entity half-way around the world. Bottom line, he's trying to save his ass.
