Galveston Texas protest against Bush and deLay.
Pictures coming soon. (I left my camera in someones car!)

When we first gathered we had about 30-40 people. The police then guided us to a blocked off location where another 170 or so were gathered. What a GREAT crowd!

We were right across the street from the "chosen few" who were invited to the public forum. They were being frisked, scanned, and had to bow before entering the facility. We heckled them mercilessly.

Members of local clubs, unions, and passerbys were in attendance with signs, flags, and banners. There were some GREAT signs! Pictures coming.

Police were very helpful and polite except for a few who had a chip the size of a dubya dump on their shoulders.

Anti-protestors gathered, all 10 of them, 4 of them were very yound children being told to hold up signs in the sun. They were bored and used. The younger crowd holding "Save Social Security" signs didnt have much to say when asked "Why weren't you invited to go inside?".

A group from UTMB gathered across the street waiting to get a glimpse of the presidents motorcade from 3 blocks away, and clapped when it flashed by. (Why they were clapping is beyond me. Was it that exciting to see a black limo with flags on its antennaes?"

We left after about 2 hours. Great crowd! Lots of energy.

1. Thanks for posting. Nothing about protests on TV...not surprising.
I'd love to go to a protest someday as they sound exciting.

2. ABC-13 is covering it, just now
Had some video of protestors (a good bit more than a glimpse), interviewed a senior protestor, mentioned "hand-picked audience" got to ask NO questions.

Showed a snippet of the conference inside, but not much. Brief bit of Bush talking. Seemed like the protest got more time.

Also showed Tom DeLay accepting applause from mindless sycophants -- err, those in attendance.

A very even-handed report.

Air Force One arrived. The guards let me in but wouldn't let me or anyone else out because he who shall not be named was somewhere on that field. Then the 3 or 4 huge choppers lifted off and towards Galveston, and all was then right with the area, except for the extreme amount of cops. Our tax dollars again at work.

Edit to add: Thanks for the pix, Lisa, and I'm looking forward to John's and the local news.
