I don't know about the rest of you, but I find Franken on AAR to be boring
to the point of tears, annoying and un-inspiring. He may be worse for AAR than Springer. I find myself almost unable to listen to him.

Janeane G in the evenings is wonderful though. AAR has a long way to go, IMHO. Thank god they exist, but,,.... IMHO, they need alot of help!

Are they setting themselves up for failure purposefully?

1. No, it's just that Franken and radio
aren't the best fit. I like hearing him speak when the text is a bit more prepared, but I don't think his talents shine as a radio host.

3. AF is using AAR to launch his Senate Bid. That is why he keeps pandering
to the right. It is boooooring. I would rather listen to a real left wing foam at the mouth than hear Al give the RW another outlet.

5. "Pandering to the right"?
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 01:51 PM by Mad_Dem_X
When does he do that? Granted, I don't listen every day, but I catch his show on the weekends, and I don't recall ever hearing him pander to the right.

I think Al is great, with his low-key, dry sense of humor and the way he stays calm while delivering his zingers. You go, Al. :headbang:

4. Me too!
Conson's on now. He's much better.

Here's how I try to look at it:

When you first start up something the most mediocre are put up first, and radio is, in itself a difficult medium. You have the talents like Randi Rhodes and Marc Marin (I don't listen at night much) and you have the ones they are trying to use to bring in the moderates. Al Franken is very gifted, but radio is a new medium for him. I think he's doing moderately well and I support him.

You know, I am so grateful for Air America. Who would give Joe Conson, David Brock, etc. airtime anywhere else.

she makes a point
sam disputes her point
she shouts her original point only really loud, as though that makes a more convincing argument.

and at times, she is dreadfully uninformed.....

14. I agree. I love Janeane too, but she is a terrible interviewer...
which she will freely admit. I like her best with Sam.

I love Laura Flanders. I'm really getting sick of Ed Shultz. He couldn't care less about politics, it's just a job to him. He's poorly informed and he is a lousy debater. I've heard him get his ass kicked a couple of times.

I worship Mark and Mark. Those guys totally rule. Lawton Smalls rocks, as does Milf Milfington.

20. Al=lame. Oyoyoy show stupid, repetative
They should give the show to Catherine Lanfer. The best parts of the show are when she interupts him or talks over him.

Al's just not made for radio. or TV, for that matter. He should stick to writing. Al has this problem where he takes a dumb idea that isn't funny, like the Oyoyoy show, or Stuart Smalley, and then he does it over and over. And over. And over. And over.

Randi is great. Sometimes I wish she wouldn't shout down her callers so much, and let them finish a sentence sometimes.

Jerry Springer is better than I thought he'd be, but I miss the host he replaced (name already fading from memory...)

22. Franken bores me too, but I LOVE Malloy and Rhodes...
Mike Malloy and Randi Rhodes are FAR AND AWAY the best AAR has. Off AAR, Thom Hartmann is the BEST liberal talk show host ANYWHERE! I keep hoping AAR will pick him up. He is, in fact, the SANEST human on the planet! I'd also love to see AAR pick up Guy James. Those four would be one helluva daily liberal talk show lineup, imho.

"Dry, slow cadence, more of a visual comedian, his slow boring voice will be a drag on radio".

But the slow and boring moderate listeners love him.

Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 03:46 PM by Zinfandel
even before AAR even went on the air, that Franken, would be, as I stated in my above post...

And the posts I received were very funny, and most who thought I was wrong about Franken, didn't like Malloy or Rhodes, they were the soft ears moderates, don't rock the boat people, afraid of change...they were the ones who just could not understand how "dry, etc." I said Franken would be...

But they are slow, dry and moderates themselves, so I understood where they were coming from.

I now listen (instead of Franken), to the GREAT Thom Hartmann...Hartmann is as great as anyone on the air, bar none...and this comes from someone who loves and adores Malloy & Rhodes...The way Hartmann deals with Freepers is amazing...he is so fucking good, a mountain of information, facts and history...Hartmann is very, very entertaining!

is AAR's "celebrity".

Franken is an excellent visual comedian. I love Al Franken's comedy and his politics (most of the time, still a little too moderate for my taste though) but Franken is a great person as well.

I just think he SUCKS as a radio personality and I'm obviously not alone!!
