Must See Pelosi & Murtha on C-SPAN
on now.
Congressional News Conference
Post War Iraq
I heard that Murtha is the most conservative Democrat. He had backed fully bush's war but now it looks like he's changed his mind.

2. Murtha is NOT happy with what has happened so far in Iraq.
He truly believed what the bush* people told him about the reasons for war, and he now realizes how he was duped (my interpretation) and is furious with how the soldiers are being treated, i.e. not having the right equipment like kevlar.

More and more of the congress will start to turn against bush* over this invasion.

8. An up side, and a down side.
On the one hand, it's always good to see more of the cold, bitter truth of this fiasco finally sinking into denying minds. On the other hand ...

A common refrain in defense of those Democrats who (initially) supported the war -- and indeed, of the President and his officials themselves, from different defenders -- has been "We don't know what kind of information they have that we don't." Well, except we do now: they had the kind that wasn't true. (And I don't just mean the WMD lies. I'm talking about the whole ball of wax, such as knowing which people saying what could be trusted. Hint for the cheap seats: the elephants aren't among them.)

Regardless of the short-term political fallout of things, of who ends up pro-X or anti-Y, Iraq has taught me something very sobering, nay, disturbing about life in America: apparently, I'm not only better informed than a lot of my neighbors, I'm apparently better informed (and/or a better judge of character) than a lot of my 'leaders'. That ... scares me.

3. Murtha
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 11:26 PM by seemslikeadream
He says we have been discredited in the world, talking about the Kevlar Vests, soldiers did not have jammers to stop signals

Somebody has to go, somebody has to be responsible.
Someone in Washington has to pay the price.
This war is not going well
What can change this?
Hold people responsible.
I believe we are sitting on our backsides back here while we're losing the war

Get the money to the troops
Have to have the people our your side
Policy set by the White House
The administration is ultimetly responsible

Have to restore hope to Iraq people
We've got to turn this around now
Make a chance now
Somebody head should roll or we will not get your crediblity back

5. WOW, not very often you hear a congressperson use 4-letter
words, I was a bit shocked, but Murtha is very, very upset about what has happened. We need to see more of these press conferences, we need more angry Dems bashing the war and the aftermath.

11. Did he give a number on the vests? Mark Shield said 40,000 short
on Capital Gang Saturday. BTW, Murtha is a Korean War vet. His district is what I'd call strong NRA support the troops. Hope this gets back to his constituents.

9. What was with Murtha
leaving the room as Pelosi was thanking him? Do you think he had to pee or something? It was kind of rude.

13. Not rude, he was Pissed Off. Wants heads to roll!
Can't see how the administration can hold up if the rest of the Dems get fired up also.

10. So exactly whose head are they calling for?
Murtha is absolutely furious. He says Sec Defense just implements policy, Administration sets policy. He wants somebody's head or heads from within teh White House itself.

I think he wants Cheney to resign. And/or Condi but I think he's going for the big one.

Cheney's lost a lot of credibility with his MTP performance and the actual press analysis that followed it.

14. It was interesting
that Murtha was sort of trying international help in Iraq to bush* firing a few people. It's sort of what I wanted, no UN help unless bush* dumps Cheney, Rumsfeld and the neo-cons (and others). Why should the UN, in effect, reward by their help the people that caused the mess in the first place.

16. Hats off to Rep. Murta!
What a tour de force of holding fire to this malAdministration's feet!

If you didn't see it, this is a must to watch on replay, or at c-span site.

This is a Byrd-level (or better!) example of oratory and rhetoric in the public service.

Right on, Amen, Brother Murta.
