TX: School officials fear satanic crimes; DPS has its doubts

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/041605dntexvalleyjournal.1576a986.html

A satanic scare is sweeping the Rio Grande Valley – at least according to school officials and counselors who warn that devil worshippers are snatching children and cutting up their bodies.

The corpses are never found because the killers pulverize the body parts, turning them to dust, said Ruben Garcia, 35, a drug counselor who warns of such dangers at forums for parents and students.

"If large numbers of children were disappearing, we would be aware of that," said Tela Mange, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. "We are not aware of any satanic cult kidnappings or ritualized murders that are occurring in the Valley at this time."

<snip>

Undeterred, counselors in the Rio Grande Valley are warning parents to get help if their children start wearing black Gothic-style clothes and listen to heavy metal rock music.

10. Go figure
So what about the hiphop kids? Could they not be involved? Typical sterotyping. I knew people in high school who dressed like that and listened to rock music and heavy metal like Manson but they were all nice kids. :eyes:

2. There was a case years ago of two teenagers on spring break
in Mexico that was snatched and killed. They were believed to be used for satanic rituals. It could be spreading in the Rio Grand area. Isn't that southern Texas?

6. What you are thinking of is
probably the murder of college student Mark Kilroy in 1989 by a drug gang. http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/weird/constanzo/1.html?sect=2

7. Yes, the Rio Grande Valley is South Texas
It is basically Brownsville (South Padre Island) to McAllen and west to Loredo. Most cities in the valley are less than 50 miles from Mexico. Of course, I say this as a new transplant to RGV (Rio Grande Valley), so I could be off some.

I live about 10 miles from the border and this is the first time I've heard this rumor. But my kids aren't yet in school so maybe that's it?

I was of the understanding that this type of activity had more to do with Santeria - which is more cuban than mexican.

14. That was Palo Moyambe, not Santeria.

The drug cartels are heavily involved in this type of ritual. It's nasty, but it's not Satanism. And the last thing these people want is a bunch of teenage wannabes out to impress their peers tagging at the big boys' heels.

This kind of rumor crops up every few years, along with the chupacabra, mysterious black-clad figures motioning travelers to pull over on deserted roadways, and the "miracles" of San Pancho Villa.

3. As has been said and is becomming true -
It's the 1960s all over again.

well, late 60s early-mid 70s.

If they listen to Rock and Roll the music will make them worship Satan.

"A satanic scare is sweeping the Rio Grande Valley – at least according to school officials and counselors who warn that devil worshippers are snatching children and cutting up their bodies.

The corpses are never found because the killers pulverize the body parts, turning them to dust, said Ruben Garcia, 35, a drug counselor who warns of such dangers at forums for parents and students."

Wow, that really is a strong statement, "We don't have proof of this because these satanists are so good, smart and skillful that they don't leave evidence. I can't wait to hear them try to charge a child as being satanic before a judge laughs them out of court for having NO EVIDENCE.

No Body, No Blood, No bones, No Teeth, No Chemical fondue, No weapon, No Motive.....

No Proof.

4. Jack Van Impe spouted that "rock leads to Communism and satanism"
trash in the 60s.
And Condi asked him for his views on world events in '03.

5. people are paranoid since 9/11

.....Brownsville police have investigated the case and "have pretty much put it to rest," said Drew Brown, a spokeswoman for the Brownsville Independent School District. She declined to provide any details, citing student confidentiality.

The boy told school officials he was part of a group of students that cut each other, drank each other's blood and were plotting to sacrifice someone.

"Sorry if my blood isn't yummy," stated a letter by one of the students, according to the Herald. "I hope you don't feel bad about cutting me. I liked it a lot. It doesn't hurt."

Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique with the Brownsville Police Department said a group did form and began researching vampirism on the Internet. The group grew to five members, said Sgt. Manrrique, and was rumored to be planning to sacrifice one of the student's fathers and drink his blood.

But after interviews with students and parents and a search of lockers at schools, police were not able to substantiate the rumor.

9. If they get their judges in......
then the witch hunt is on. I'm running out and buying a huge bible. I'm gonna strap it around my neck so they will know for sure that I'm a bible toter and not a devil worshiping liberal or democrat.

Of course, my neck bible will be hollowed out. I will not discuss what is inside of my hollow bible.

11. Interesting
Do you think it's true? Has there been any kids missing? Or just the rumors of kids missing? Are they trying to get rid of the rock music?

17. OK, I never wore the Goth clothing, that was after my time.
Dungarees and a t-shirt ... maybe a jacket if the temperature was really, cold.

Black Sabbath was favorite band. Ted Nugent opened for them when they went to the Capitol Center.

Then, one day, I decided I really preferred Bach's English suites to "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath", I thought Zino Francescatti played better than Tony Iommi (?), and I liked Palestrina better than Aerosmith.

It took a decade before my parents stopped trying to figure it out. (But hey, I still like Dinosaur Jr.)

19. This reminds me of the documentary
Paradise Lost. Where a couple kids were sent to death row for a "satanic" murder basically because they listened to heavy metal and read Alister Crowley. This is nothing more than the fundies trying to scare more people to their side of the fence.
