April 8th was the 11th anniversary of the Rwandan Massacre
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 01:39 AM by NNguyenMD
11 years ago the Western Nations, President Clinton, Kofi Annan, and more hurtfully the United Nations failed the 800,000 Rwandans massacred in that 100 day tragedy when hell essentially came to earth.

Let us never forget that when good people do nothing, evil will always prevail, which was exactly what happened in Rwanda in April 1994.

I recommend all of you to watch the video clips from the PBS Frontline Documentary Ghosts of Rwanda.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/ghosts/today/

"Luckily, the French did land. They did secure the airport, and they announced that they were coming just strictly to get out their expatriates. What that meant was anybody that was white-skinned got to get on an airplane and fly to safety, and anybody that was black-skinned got to stay in Rwanda and get killed. That's as simple as it came down to. It still to this day leaves a very, very bad taste in my mouth that the United States of America could have 350 Marines sitting at airport, that the French were able to get in 500 or so paratroopers, that the Belgians had over 1,000 paratroopers.

You know, we basically had our intervention force already on the ground. What they later told us, it was impossible to get on the ground. We had it on the ground on April 10, within three days of this thing starting. But it wasn't there to intervene. It wasn't there to save Rwanda; it was there to save white people, and that's what it came down to. White people were saved and black people were not. For those of us who lived through that time, it still leaves a pretty bad taste in our mouths."

-Maj. Brent Beardsley
Executive assistant to Gen. Romeo Dallaire, force commander of UNAMIR

1. Freepers would have something similar happen here..
at least those who could stomach it. Remember, one of the catalysts of the Rawanda massacre was talk radio.

Thread title: "Rwandan Hutu Rebels Denounce Genocide, Halt War"

Do you have an idea of whether this is this real, as good as it sounds? Or is it public relations?

"Thus for the time being I have sent to the East only my 'Death's Head Units' with the orders to kill without pity or mercy all men, women, and children of Polish race or language. Only in such a way will we win the vital space that we need. Who still talks nowadays about the Armenians?"

5. Let us never forget is right.
Kick. What a sad, sad black day for America and all the others who allowed this atrocity to happen.

6. Just watched Hotel Rwanda and Sometimes in April
Both great films on the massacres.

Absolutely chilling.

The departure of the expatriates is a stain on all Western nations for a long time to come, including the people and government of the United States of America. And I include myself. I was in college at the time, and I probably did, as the camera man says in Hotel Rwanda, say "Oh, that's awful," then turn around and eat my dinner. Just plain sickening.

7. Clinton and Albright did more than just just ignore it.
They actively undermined UN efforts to stop it. Then they helped install Kabila who continued the genocide against the Hutus.

General Dallaire is a genuine hero.

8. Shaking Hands With the Devil

Another documentary is Shaking Hands with the Devil. It is based upon the experiences of the Canadian general who commanded UN peacekeepers during the Rwanda massacure. It is not yet out on DVD.

10. Canada has it's shame to bear here as well
General Dallaire, a Canadian, appealed to our government to do everything to push the UN to action and our government ignored his pleas. It is certainly a chapter in our history that shames me as a Canadian.
