Bush will never ban abortion
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 05:13 AM by ck4829
I know many of us have realized that. But, I always see RW'ers that say "The Republicans are going to take care of you culture of death Democrats".

Sorry to break it to you RW'ers, but Bush, DeLay, Frist, and the others need hot-button issues like Abortion to keep going. Without fear, they are nothing.

Sure, they may chip away at abortion, but the Republicans will allow the nation to adjust to the changes that they had made and then once again proclaim that they are against abortion.

RW'ers: Wake up and realize that Bush will never ban abortion and do about 100% of the stuff he says.

Democrats: It's time we call the Republicans out on their bluff because this empowers them AND the militants in the 'christian' Right such as Eric Rudolph.

1. Took his father about 5 minutes to pick it up so?
This is a poll going group if I ever saw one. So they will stay with the plan as long as it gets votes. Look at father and Barbara for how long these people say they believe any thing.

3. I have been saying that for years.
The fundies just don't get it. This is the hook issue for the reupkes, they will play it for as long as the right to lifers keep following them down the yellow brick road.

4. "Sure, they may chip away at abortion,"
I love how you can post that so casually, without the slightest concern for the women who have their lives ruined by continued, increasing infringements upon their reproductive freedoms. This is the excuse many activists use to cease to care about this essential civil liberty, which is digusting considering it is essential to the concept of a free society. Your post is one of the most offensive things I have ever seen on this site. I hope you will spend some time researching and thinking about the thoughtless nature of your comments before posting about abortion rights and what Bush and Republicans are doing to them before putting up something like this again. "Sure, they may chip away at abortion," as if that is nothing to be outraged about, as if the right's insiginificant "chipping" is not a grave, misogynist threat to the health and safety of women everywhere. The mindset you displayed here truly sickens me.

7. Reading over my own post
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 07:25 AM by ck4829
I can't believe I said that.

That being said, look, I am offended by the loss of women's rights, but how would you want me quote it?

How do you want me represent a cold calculated design of us slipping back into dark ages without using words like "chipping away at abortion"?

In my opinion nobody can be afford to be nice anymore, and people on both the left and the right need to be told the truth.

I know what I said is not harmless and inoffensive, but being nice and sweet won't get anyone anywhere.

It was not convenient and it was not easy to make this post. I had thought of every word for hours before I had written it. So, if you think that I had made this post in minutes just to get attention or to rant against women then you are incorrect just as anyone would be incorrect if they think I am against the freedoms of women.

6. I tell this to these fundie jerks all the time but they just don't get
it. For many of them it's their only issue, besides gay marriage now, for voting republican. Bush said early on in his first term that it was not at the top of his agenda and Bill Frist makes too much money off of the procedure.

8. Without these divisive issues..........
Republicans would be out of business. You are correct, the abortion issue is nothing more than a charade for them. You can add issues like gay marriage, school prayer and flag burning. This is how Republicans stay in power.......dividing the electorate over issues that really have little to do with their larger goals.

9. You're absolutely correct - they won't ban it....
...they'll let the judges do that for them.

Seriously, Congress can do all they can to make it harder to get an abortion but right now they have no ability to ban them since the courts are still on our side for Roe V. Wade (6-3) and Casey V. SEPARC (5-4, Kennedy still wavers). So IF Congress & Bush were to ban abortion it would easily be overturned by the courts.

But you're absolutely right, they will use it as a campaign issue, fundraising issue and hot-point issue to divide the country. They'll make-up fake problems like "Partial Birth Abortions" and try to convince the country that this is a real threat to our families. Now their new cause I believe is giving Pharmacist the right to refuse doling out BCP and EC. It's happening, I can smell it in the air!

11. ...or hospital mergers
Because so many Catholic hospitals are merging with other hospitals, there are regions of the US where you just can't get an abortion unless you can afford to travel a long distance to a hospital or clinic that does it. Hell, there are places in this country where a married woman with six kids can't get her *tubes tied* unless she can afford to travel to get *that* procedure done.
