WSJ: repubs don't have the votes to kill the filibuster rule
"The Senate appears headed for a high-stakes showdown over the 'nuclear option,' a gambit to end the Democrats' ability to filibuster judicial nominations," the Wall Street Journal reports. "But Republicans have a problem. Even with a 55-seat majority, they currently don't have the votes to change the rules."

"The reason: a culture clash inside the Republican conference. It is partly about ideology, pitting conservatives pushing for the judges against moderates queasy about a confrontation. There is also a tug of war between newcomers eager to wield power and others who worry about the move backfiring if they return to the minority."

3. Ahhh...opposition.
Just keep handing out the spankings. People will notice.

All these "new guys" just don't have a clue about how congress works, how it is expected to work and what the public really wants out of it.

Their time grows shorter every day.

10. I'm suspicious. Smacks of misdirection. A hope that the Dem
moderates will look at it and relax, maybe even attempt to break ranks and vote to quash the fillibuster. WSJ and other conservative papers like the IBD did this a lot (I thought) during the election cylce.

Social security, Schiavo, and now this. It hasn't been a pretty couple of months for Bush and his cronies in congress.

I really think they have no intention of every losing another important election or relinquishing power, no matter what the actual vote outcome is.
