U.S. Daily Casualties 9/16/2003

As of Monday, 295 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.

The British military has reported 49 deaths; Denmark's military has reported one.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat in Iraq had ended, 157 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq.

The latest deaths reported by U.S. Central Command:


A 1st Armored Division soldier was killed Monday when a patrol was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in central Baghdad.
The latest identifications reported by the military:


Master Sgt. Kevin N. Morehead, 33, Little Rock, Ark.; killed Friday in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, during a raid; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Sgt. 1st Class William M. Bennett, 35, Seymour, Tenn.; killed Friday in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, during a raid; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Sgt. Trevor A. Blumberg, 22, Canton, Mich.; died Sunday in Baghdad, Iraq, when two explosive devices struck his vehicle; assigned to 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
