Shipping advice needed
I want to ship a package to someone in England (an E-bay purchase
10 lb package)

I went to the USPS website and figured the shipping cost. However, the UPS website is a little more complicated and I could not get a definitive quote).

Based on your experiences which option is the most reasonable? Perhaps you know of another company?

I usually go to my local Pakmail, but I want to save money and ship it myself.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

1. I use very careful packaging
and the USPS. They're usually cheaper.

2. The problem with UPS
is they usually want 5 copies of an invoice and your first born male child.

I would go with USPS as well, but I would also look for some way to track it. That's the only thing that makes me nervous about USPS, not trackability.

Also, don't forget you'll need a customs form as well.

3. Our family owned business ships abroad occasionally
and we have daily UPS service which has a better rate. We repeatedly found USPS to be a less expensive choice with transit time comparable to UPS. As an example, we just shipped a 22 pd. package to Belgium. The USPS charge was $77.00 and the UPS cost would have been $137.00.

4. I've had the best luck with the USPS
rather than UPS when shipping to the UK or anywhere in Europe. UPS can charge huge fees for handling customs, taxes and duty. Most recipients prefer the postal service for this reason.

For something small, check a rate quote at fedex.com, too.

5. USPS for everything
anywhere. Rates are better, service is better.

But, its Express Mail - in my experience - sucks. FedEx if you want it done fast and right.

6. Not much help, but...
Never had a problem shipping overseas via USPS. Your 10-pound package is a bit heavy for the easy USPS Global Priority service. Haven`t used UPS for deliveries outside this country so I`m no help there, but I would guess that the shipping fees are fairly close to USPS.
Good luck with your package.

8. Fill out a return receipt and get delivery confirmation..
From USPS.
One thing about ebay purchases is if you lack a delivery confirmation
(return receipt or confirmed delivery) the buyer can always say they never received it.
Also get insurance for the item, if they said to get it.
Someone shipped a Moog synthesizer to my son and though I paid $25 for postal insurance, it was NOT insured. And the box was a mess.
Some knobs had fallen off the Moog and he had to get it repaired by a friend, who, fortunately, did not charge him.
I complained to ebay and got a refund for the insurance that was not on the package.
