1. A convention without a candidate annointed
What a wonderfully fantastic world they inhabit there.

I've really enjoyed this season.

2. Gary Cole does a wonderful job playing "Bingo Bob" ... but if he gets
the nom, it'll be like the thoroughly bland and incompetent George W. Bush getting the nom on our liberal fantasy show. And that just won't do. So I think it'll be Smits/Santos.

Yeah, I know it's all fiction. But with Bush in the White House, we have to live in our heads occasionally!

5. Ugh, I cannot stand "Bingo Bob" - you're right, it'll be bland.
I absolutely cannot stand "Bingo Bob" (and I love Gary Cole too - I just can't get in to his role as Bob Russell).. I'm totally rooting for Santos to get the nod. I just love the fact that the convention is kind of a nod to the past by not having a nominee beforehand. It should be a good finish to an awesome season.

For what it's worth, if IMDB is any indication, Jimmy Smits is still only credited as a regular guest star while Alan Alda is credited as a cast member from 2004-?. Not that this information is the gospel truth, but it's a speculation! *g*

Sure it's fantasy, but it's ten thousand times better then the reality ;)

3. We want Santos!
Of course Santos will get the nomination... they wouldn't put Gary Cole against Alan Alda!

I'm so glad the show has gotten better. I stopped watching it for a couple years until this season.

4. Fantasy World
:loveya: sigh........

Just sitting here thinking about having an intelligent, compassionate total HUNK in the Oval Office, like Matt Santos/Jimmy Smits. What a wonderful world it would be!

7. I was hoping they wouldn't extend the show into a new administration.
But that won't happen... It'll become a soap opera.

This is Bartlett's show, and the best episodes of the West Wing are behind us. Episodes like "Take this Sabbath Day," "20 Hours in America," and "Two Cathedrals" are pieces of art.

If I had to choose between candidates, I'd pick Vinick, because Jimmy Smits is an amateur compared to Alan Alda.

8. I wonder -
Last week, the promo for the finale asked who will be the next president, and they flashed to Alda and Smits. So, I'm guessing Santos will win the nomination. Do they decide the general tonight as well? It sort of sounds like they will.

Last season sucked, but I've really enjoyed this one. I just find it hard to believe that the Republicans would ever nominate someone like Alda's character - it would simply never happen. They should have made him a little more right-wing, because it's just too unbelievable - the guy could easily be a moderate Democrat.

15. Vinik a moderate Dem?
I thought they used his character to remind repubs of what traditional republican values looks like (cut taxes etc). His virtue in refusing to use religiosity was an poke in the eye to all who foolishly confuse the Constitution & the Bible, imho. In showing what a traditional repub is supposed to look like, maybe it was a polite elbow for Dems to remember traditional Democratic values as well.

Like all art, it is open to interpretation by the viewer, maybe I just saw what I wanted to see in that wonderful episode.

9. If you saw the promo after the show last week...
there's really no question about who will get the nomination. If there ever was, that is.

I hope there's a good cliffhanger.

Look forward to talking with you all about it tonight.:)

10. Hate to break it to you guys
But there's no way hell that Gary Cole gets the nomination and I'd say its highly unlikely that Alan Alda wins. The fact is The West Wing creators have spent so much time developing the Santos charachter, much more than both Vinick and Russell, that it would be highly unlikely that either of them got the nomination. I'd say the likelihood Santos win the Dem. nomination is at 99.9%, and the likelihood he wins the Presidency is around 90-95%.

11. Plus, Alda has stated publicly that he's not interested in
doing another series at this point in his life/career.

Unless they're really trying to trick us, methinks Santos will be the next POTUS.

I just wonder what will knock Vinick out of it. He seems like a strong candidate right now, aside from the religion thing.

12. The religious right wing of the Republican party will betray Vinick
in some manner, due to his abortion and church stance.

I think his VP nominee will be involved in the treachery.

13. Maybe you're right...
but it seems like he might make up for it in the large numbers of moderate Democrats that could turn to him, fearful of what seems to be a very liberal Santos administration.

I was thinking a scandal, possibly. But who knows? Something will happen, I'm almost sure of it. We'll just have to wait and see.

14. Oh cool. They filmed some of this is my building
yes, I work at Warner Bros.

I think the scenes that are in "press rooms" were filmed here. I saw Josh and others here saw Donna and Will. No Jimmy Smits though. :-(
