Bush's Sex-ed test...can you pass it?
test here:
http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/sexed/index.html

Thanks to Professor President George W. Bush, millions of your tax dollars are being pumped into risky abstinence-only programs. But what is Bush really teaching America's teens? Could YOU pass sex-ed by President Bush? Take the quiz to find out...

(I posted this first in the Reproduction forum, but there is some interest in having a wider group see it)

7. Sorry, this is America. Sex doesn't sell
Just watch TV for a few minutes and you will see what Americans really care about.

Well, maybe sex does sell, come to think of it.

LOL. I probably would have failed too, if I had taken it. I was too dumbfounded by the questions though. Do they really think they're making sense???

3. It's actually pretty funny
This MIGHT have worked 40 year ago, even 20 yrs but not today. Kids have experimented with sex at an early age since the beginning of time. I'd like to see the repukes take a test asking what age they were when they first experimented with sex, but then again, they'd all lie.

8. Oh My God!
This is actually being taught to our children?

I have a friend with a 13 year old daughter, and I'm absolutely in shock over the question/response about what must a woman do to keep a mate...the response "never, ever act too smart" MUST be a joke!

Please let it be a joke, or a misprint...I mean...that's a horrendous thing to teach a young woman...it's EVIL!

My God....

22. such bilge.
If you want to marry a dumb man, then it's a good idea to act dumb. Plus, that logic only applies to women who are desperate to get married. Teenage girls have no business trying to "please their man" at that young age, and they certainly shouldn't play dumb just to get a boyfriend.

Who thought this was a good idea?!:dunce:

9. Nominated - What a hoot.
Are these people anti-condom?
If Condoms don't work, why bother with them at all. Just take your chances and good luck.

Is AIDS really that high in gay teens, or are the only teens out of the closet the ones who are infected. If I remember my teen years correctly, it was a time when we were all so self conscious we were afraid of appearing different in any way. I would think teens are afraid to come out as it may cost them their friends or status.

10. hardly any gay teens are infected with HIV
We're too busy hiding (from the Inquisition who wants to burn us all at the stake) to have sex, much less even come out to anyone.

15. I think the RW is correct on that one. (kinda)
Sperm does determine gender. Natures "default" setting is to generate a female, but if the fertilizing sperm has a Y Chromosome, the egg will develop into a male.

So in a way, there IS male and female sperm.

Disclaimer: If anyone knows better, please educate me.

17. A human, male or female must have two sex chromosomes.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 01:39 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
You get one from your mother and one from your father. There is no "default" setting in humans. You get the X from your mother and an X or a Y from your father. A "Y" is not a "male". It's nothing. It's just a cell.

21. I have to disagree a bit.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 02:17 PM by brainshrub
Eggs may not have a gender, but all embryos are female for the first eight weeks of gestation. This is why men have nipples. (Think of male-nipples as the empty slot where a car's factory-radio should have gone.)

I understand that sperm don't have a gender; But it's not entirely incorrect to say that there are male & female sperm. If you define "maleness" as having a Y chromosome, then there are male & female sperm.

23. "Maleness" is having an X and a Y, not just a Y.
It might not be entirely incorrect to say there are male and female sperm, but it's still incorrect.

30. Fairly often, a sperm cell will have "XX" or "YY" or nothing at all.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 09:08 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
What is a sperm that has no sex chromosome? Sperm are just cells. They're not "male" and they're not "female". People are going to start believing (again) that sperm and eggs are people and rallying against birth control.

25. "male and female sperm" is correct but only if you apply bush logic.
It's the same kind of logic which connected Saddam to September 11, 2001. IOW, Saddam hates the U.S., the terrorists hate the U.S.; ergo, a connection by the miraculous application of bush logic.

Oh, god, please help us :banghead:

27. male & female sperm
Sperm are male & female. Eggs are female. It's a fairly correct explanation, though simplistic.

However, their other explanations are rife with inaccuracies!
They cite an incorrect # of chromosomes, and that's the least harmful bit of misinformation in their "educational" program.

31. Sperm arent male or female! They are just cells!
They have no gender and no feelings and no...anything. "male" "female" don't exist in sex cell form. A sperm or egg doesn't even have to be X or Y. It could be XX or YY or just not have a sex chromosome at all.
People are trying to humanize cells. This is dangerous. It leads to things like "masturbation kills babies". A sperm isn't a little baby just looking for a place to grow. It's a haploid cell. NOT human.

...some clearly perpetuate gender stereotypes by stating that “women gauge their happiness and judge their success by their relationships” while “men’s happiness and success hinge on their accomplishments.”(20) On a list of the “5 Major Needs of Men,” one curriculum includes “domestic support, sexual fulfillment, and physical attractiveness.” The “5 Major Needs of Women” include “financial support, affection, and conversation.”(21) Another curriculum includes a tale of a knight who rescues a princess from a dragon. The princess advises the knight to kill the dragon with a noose or with poison instead of the bolder method of attacking with a sword, and the alternative means work but leave the knight feeling “ashamed.” The knight ultimately chooses to marry a village maiden, but “only after making sure she knew nothing about nooses or poison.” The curriculum concludes: “Moral of the story: Occasional suggestions and assistance may be alright, but too much of it will lessen a man’s confidence or even turn him away from his princess.”(22)

I stay at home, I find the rat race and career less important than a family and activism! Our community matters if we want peace, safty and freedom, even at home.. let alone worldwide!

Just goes to show you all stereotypes are never acurate enough to use!
