Clark summons political team to Arkansas
What's the word, General?? :D

Sept. 15, 2003 | WASHINGTON (AP) -- On the verge of running, retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark on Monday summoned his fledgling political team to Arkansas to discuss strategy for mounting a Democratic presidential campaign.

Several party officials said legal, financial and political advisers were invited to the Tuesday session in Little Rock, Ark. They were told Clark had made a decision about whether to run, but they were not told what it was.

Clark told friends and associates last week that he is likely to run, and Monday's developments left little room for doubt about his intentions.

"We haven't been told for sure, but I think we know what this is about," said George Bruno, a New Hampshire activist who will attend the meeting. "It's up to the boss to call the shots."

27. You Don't Do That at a Summit
You do that via phone, e-mail, taped message to his Draft folks. IMO, anyway.

33. not importent players that you respect you don't
you probably go to them realistically. But you were stumped for any other reason and that is a real one. I expect he's going to announce too but why the summit unless he wants a crowd around the desk when he does ? They've already done that part of the work and they shouldn't need to meet up to begin the next stage unless its some sort of kick off extravaganza for the media.

3. whoohoo!
I'm gettin' giddy.

If he decides against running, I'm gonna be really bummed. I was heartbroken when Hart decided against - he was my first choice. Don't let me down, Wesley!!

4. I wonder how much he will pull in donations the first month

After he's announced. Could we be talking Dean type, $80 to $100 donations? OR more from heavyweights. This is gonna be interesting.

He's got bigwigs like Spielberg and the Clinton donors, and he also has a ton of grassroots support from the DWC/DC2004 Internet efforts.

9. Lets encourage him!
How about we start sending in something like 3 e-mails per person per day until the day he announces trying to convince him and show him that people REALLY want him to run? Good thing he's calling in his team, I guess that DOES mean he is going to run! Go Wesley! Just PLEASE don't become the next RFK!

Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 03:17 PM by placton
Clark is looking better. Kerry's campaign seems in disarray. And Clark is such a great candidate. Even if we lost the '04 election, the debates would be priceless:

Clark: "And when I was winning those medals in the Nam, I understand you were AWOL - is that true, twit-boy?"
Shrub: "I don't remember nuttin' about nuttin' in that time frame."

Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 04:36 PM by knight_of_the_star
This is your conducter speaking! The Wesley Clark Express will be starting its run in Little Rock Arkansas this week, Wednesday if we can get the engineer on board that soon! We will be making stops in exotic places like Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, California, Hawaii, Florida, and ending our tour in the beautiful city of Washington DC! Our station stop there will be located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and we will be greeted by such illustrious local political figures like the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court! And don't worry about any kind of track problems that could be caused by the competing Bush and Cheney Railroad. This engine can handle anything that comes our way! AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL AAAABOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRRRD!!!!

20. CNN is also reporting this
I'm pretty excited. He's got a lot of supporters who are all set to go into full campaign mode. He will hit the ground running and it won't take him long to make up for whatever time he lost by not declaring sooner.

25. I had the dizzying thought that if Clark were to run,
my wife might even actually "allow" me to volunteer for his campaign. That would be wonderful. A four-star General is hard for a Republican to smear.

28. I've Already Got the Green Light to Volunteer
First time I've ever been so excited about a (hopefully) candidate!

I am also donating more to him than I ever have before. I'm with Kahuna, I'm doubling my pledge if he gets in, and I will probably re-up if he gets the nomination.

All this, from a curmudgeony cynic. ;-)

The folks in NY have sent an e-mail out saying there's going to be a rally in Times Square at noon on the day he announces.

(I wonder if I can sneak a long lunch past my Freeper boss.)

Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 06:35 PM by tjdee
(I'm sure he's not thinking a thing about Edwards, LOL.) Sigh.

Clark has to get his groove on, but dang, man. Tomorrow's supposed to be Edwards' day. :(

Aww well, day after Clark announces, it'll be Isabel's week!
