During the Schavio mess what was missed?

Just me wondering but I don't always get to read through every thread and I was wondering: while all this was going on what was missed?

an oil crisis
a report saying we were "dead wrong" on Iraq
a report saying Kofi Annan didn't do anything wrong
a miserable attempt at "fixing" Social Security
Tom DeLay going to jail soon
and a flagging economy.

2. Do You Mean What in the SCHIAVO Situation Was Missed? or the "Distraction"

argument. If it's what-in-the-SCHIAVO:

1) It was about our political enemies using their usual scare-hysterical-slime tactics against us.

2) It was about wingnut/fundies using anti-democracy tactics, undermining our system of government.

3) It was about wingnut/fundies assaulting civil liberties.

4) It was about the wingnut/fundies assaulting the independence of our court system.

5) It was NOT about the specifics of the CASE, NOT about OUR re-trying what the 20-some courts had made DETERMINATIONS about.

----------IF, otoh, this thread is going to be about the "distraction" argument, which is oh-so-tiresome:

* It was short-sighted for the "distraction" argumentors to MISS the importance of what was happening.
