Did you just see the press conference that priest just gave?
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 07:50 PM by goodboy
Holy Shit! (pun intended)

He said, and I'm paraphrasing,"Terri's holding 3 stuffed animals, and if they'd been real animals, we couldn't do to them what 'we're' doing to terri. also the flowers have more water than terri, and we cannot be governed by courts, and that ordinary citizens (and the bush's) should take the law into their own hands and remove her by FORCE>

To those who were offended by some of the things I've said today about Jessie Jackson's involvment in this circus, I apologize.

If you saw the press conference, can you see why I'm concerned about anyone from our side getting involved?

Goodboy.

said the courts have no authority blah blah blah...he said mrs. schiavo was holding stuffed animals, that had they been REAL animals, would be protected by law...the flowers in her room had more water than mrs. schiavo.

But when animals are sick, they stop eating and drinking on their own, go to a quiet place, and die in peace.

30. he's right about the animals
Although I very much support the decision of the court, and the right of an individual to have life support removed when terminal, the priest is actually right about the animals. No institutional animal care and use committee in this country (University, NIH, USDA, private biotech company, pharmaceutical company, etc.) would allow any research animal to be euthanized by withholding food and/or water for 1-2 weeks while in coma. They would all insist on lethal injection or some other form of euthanasia.

Correct me if I'm wrong we actually euthanize healthy animals in shelters just because of over crowding. I mean holding the animal standard to Terri I'd be firing up my grill.

Animals are not held up to the same standards as people or else they'd all be arrested for public nudity

We euthanize millions of healthy dogs and cats
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 08:25 PM by REACTIVATED IN CT
EVERY YEAR in animal shelters in this country. We have a major problem with overpopulation of companion animals - fed by the greed of the puppymillers who keep them in inhuman conditions and breed them indiscriminately, sell them to the pet stores where people pay $500 - $1000 for an unhealthy pup. Aren't you glad you asked?

For more info on puppymills (many run by the Amish who needed another cash crop) see:

38. Also the flowers have more brain power than Terri...
to be blunt about it.

The current circus is a result of the belief in a magical spirit that makes things alive, a belief which deludes itself and anyone who will listen into believing that a mindless body has a personality. Because the nearly brain-dead lump of flesh still looks like Terri, the cultists must shout down the medical evidence which says unambiguously that nobody's home.

...at least as far as the endless court petitions.

We should IMO advocate confining the practice of medicine to qualified professionals, and attempt to keep all sides out of future cases. as you say, it's a matter for the next-of-kin to decide, with the aid of the best possible medical advice available.

I suspect that this is a very special case. Most people on partial life support don't have such severe brain damage, and might stand a reasonable chance of some sort of recovery and quality of life.

it's too late now, if he could have spoken up sooner, I was in Florida last September. I can't afford to go back right now.

This caring and compassionate priest must have a list of all the people in Terri's condition in this country. If he could show me his list for New York State(I'm sure there are some) then maybe I could help save someone closer to me.

Sharing the list with us would show the world that he truly cares, and is not just trying for his 15 minutes of fame.

Any bets that he even knows of one more person in Terri's' condition?
