The top Dems who will control the party's war chest beginning the first of 2004. They can make or break candidates through funding and control of other advantages. This is how it was for many decades, until the advent of the super primaries, which *appear* to be decisive. But IMO they are still controlled by the parties (Dem and repuke).

| 73. we threw a house party! |
|
It was fun. we didn't raise as much money as we would have hoped - partly because there were 15 other parties the same night here in Atlanta. it's great to be able to get the conference call - though i'm not sure they're still doing that with all the demands on the Governor's schedule. A couple of pointers: 1. even if you are able to arrange the conference call, have a DVD or Video of Dean. it really helps those people who are wavering - he's quite dynamic, as you know, and it helps get people to cough up some extra dough. 2. make sure you have an internet connected computer and a person to help donors log on and donate during the party. 3. buy or make or somehow GET buttons, literature, bumper stickers, etc. people like to get them. be sure to check the FEC rules about whether or not you can sell them at the party - we gave them away. 4. have people there to help you so that you can be the "host", you don't need to be worrying about whether the canapes are burning! 5. If you do get a conference call, try to schedule your party well ahead of the appointed time and make sure people are ready to hang out later. the reason i say this is that the campaign may have to change the times around and you want to be sure your folks are there for the call.
have fun! one great thing about Howard Dean and his campaign is that they are making it fun to be involved!
just my thoughts.

But we did it in august. it was "official", part of the "Sip and Sizzle" houseparty prmotion. We told all our friends, posted on DFA and GFD, and sent about 200 invitations to Dems in the 3 or 4 precincts around us (list obtained through the Dem party.)
When you hook up with your local volunteers to do this, they will (eventually) get you a "house party kit" that tells how to set it up.
We'll be doing it again.

Is anyone here who participated in a DU chat some months ago? It was a lot of fun, but I can't remember anything about where the chat place was.
|
| 23. ABC Poll: Dean Leading Nationally Now? |
|
Where's this coming from (center of page)? I can't find it elsewhere, so this is the thread to ask I suppose. Says Dean at 20% Kerry and Lieberman at 19% Gephardt at 15% and Clark at 6% That's national. (Which, as we all know, is not too meaningful, because there's no national primary. But it can be interesting for spotting national trends.)

Anyone who wants to volunteer to help out at the events tomorrow, please PM me. The rally is in Hurt Park (near Georgia State) and we have groups of volunteers meeting there at 9AM, 11AM, and 1PM for various tasks.
Just showing up at the rally or any of the events would be great, but we might need a few more hands to help with things like flyering the area prior to the events, directing pedestrians, and yes, cleaning up afterwards.
We also have a slot for an entertainment act if anybody knows someone who would be upbeat, free, and can make it happen on 18 hours notice. Stage and PA provided.
I am......Powered By Howard!

He's more than holding his own, considering how he's getting stabbed in the back on a daily basis. I've changed my mind about voting for just anyone who is nominated in the Democratic party, because I don't like the way the candidates are biting at each other instead of their common enemies.

I was passing out flyers to the Democrats and Unaffiliates down my street yesterday. Got one Republican too!
Most had not been paying attention to the race, so planted the first seeds for Dean. One guy was for Kerry, but not strongly for him. One was an ABB -- Anybody But Bush.
I'll be treking down the other streets in my district, I'm on my town's Dem committee, over the next few weeks.

Still voting for Dean. Still sick of all the divisive BS that is marring DU. Not going anywhere either.

at Freeperville Central (Fresno, CA), being a walking bilboard for Dean Dean the Presidential machine. Get to talk with him tomorrow on a conference call, as a matter of fact (along with 600+ others).

| 230. Yes, but ... While I give money to the Dean campaign and |
|
believe he's the most viable anti-war candidate -- I confess my heart is with Kucinich. I'm a little disheartened that Dean 'seems' to backing off his anti-war message -- A while back he did an interview for the LA Times and he won my heart when he said that the most important thing for him to do re: foreign policy was to undo all the damage Bush has done in the last four years or some such thing. Now except for his initial stand against the invasion, he seems to be backing off -- I want him to be just as strong about getting us out of Iraq, repudiating the imperialistic foreign policy of ours, being a fair arbiter in the Israeli-Palentinian for real, etc. etc. I wish just once I could vote my heart.....

I think he is still strong on it, but is also trying to highlight other ideas he has. Though I agree the war must be fought hard by our nominee.
