I just dropped my cable TV and told Comcast I'm doing so because
MSM is nothing but a propaganda tool.

The silence feels good!

4. I can't get rid of mine totally because of my Internet connection*
but I am at this moment pondering cutting back a couple of tiers. I find that I don't watch the movie channels enough to pay for them, and now that Carnivale is over for the season and I'm not that into Deadwood, I'll even ponder dropping HBO.

I realized that I have over 70 hours of taped movies that I haven't watched yet, and with such good deals on DVD rentals and sales these days, I could keep busy with my taped movies and then start in on DVDs. I would actually come out ahead financially. :-)

*Can't go to DSL, because that would mean dealing with Qwest, and I just dropped Qwest for Vonage.

9. Also sometimes
places that sell movies will have sells after the movie has been out so long. I usually go to FYE or Target to buy DVD's.

12. How do you like Vonage? Can you get high-speed Internet through them?

15. No, you have to HAVE high-speed Internet to get Vonage
I have the system set up, and there's a dial tone on the phone I have hooked up, but I'm still in the process of getting my number switched over from Qwest, so I can call out, but I'm still using Qwest for incoming calls.

It seems fine, and it's definitely cheaper than Qwest, since I can get 500 minutes, including nationwide long distance, for $14.99 a month. (I'm not a major phone talker, so 500 minutes is just about right.)

16. Sure you can!
I cancelled my Comcast cable TV last summer when our condo association put DishNetwork dishes on the roofs of the buildings that we can tie-in to without having dishes hanging off half the balconies (which I couldn't do anyway since I couldn't aim it correctly due to where I'm situated in the building) which made the choice between cable and satellite easier. But I also switched from a DSL internet connection to a Comcast cable modem because the speed on the DSL was so lousy. Even though I pay more for the cable modem than I would if I still had my TV with Comcast, overall I'm still paying slightly less than I was with cable TV and DSL and I'm happier with both services than I was before. Go figure.

17. I keep mine because of the internet connection as well
I need it for work because I handle some pretty large databases and DSL just doesn't cut it.

Also, there are some things I like to watch, like Jon Stewart and the British Comedies.

I wouldn't want to get rid of Comedy Central and HBO etc. I just don't watch the crap. It makes their ratings go down. ;) It's my forum of silent protest. Hehe.

6. Got rid of all except the most basic service.
I can only get 2 channels with an antenna and I want at least the major networks so I'm kinda stuck though I do feel a bit liberated.

10. I got rid of Comcast cable too
Not only is the programming crap, but the stupid digital cable box never worked properly. The only thing I miss is the Speed Channel.

11. I have only basic cable....
and do NOT watch any form of news, except the Daily Show of course! But I am still addicted to scifi & bbcamerica. I like the old movie channels too and my brother watches the discovery channels and enjoys critiquing their veracity.

13. I have satellite and there is no way I would drop it.
It would be like cutting off my nose to spite my face. There are too many channels that I watch, especially Home Shopping and QVC. I can't do without them. Plus, I can't get any channels with an antenna.

14. We MUST have "Discovery Health Channel"
I simply cannot make it through the week without "IMPACT: Stories of Survival."

The wife and I watch it and laugh our sick little asses off: we call it "The Dipshit Hour" and discuss which was the silliest of the bunch. It still is hard to top the guy in the chariot: just what did "Ben Hur" think? That the Romans were still holding the Circus Maximus? I can't even watch the clip of him being catapulted over the powerline without collapsing in hysterical laughter.

19. I did that last spring!
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 03:59 PM by yebrent
After Clark dropped out of the primaries. I told Comcast that ever since the Discover Channel, TLC, A&E, Bravo changed to lame home improvement/motorcycle shows, the only reason I still had basic cable was for the news. With the declining quality of cable news, I now get most of my news from the internet. It was so much fun to tell off Comcast.

I'm just using an antenna now and don't even get NBC because there is no San Francisco area affiliate! The only time I missed having cable was during the Olympics (on NBC).

On edit: I do miss The Daily Show. I try not to think about what I'm missing though. It is a good thing that I can download all the best segments on-line.
