Texas to BAN divorce through a Constitutional Amendment.
The pandering and grandstanding continues in Texas, but this week they will take aim at divorce. HJR6, is intended to ban gay marriage, except the wording will also not recognize divorce!

A JOINT RESOLUTION
proposing a constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by adding Section 32 to read as follows:

Sec. 32. Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.

SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 8, 2005.

The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing that
marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman."

with one man marrying a series of trophy wives and discarding them when time and childbirth get them looking a little shabby. He'd be allowed only one woman and she would be allowed only one man.

ok - parse it out for us
"marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman"

it doesn't say ONE union -- it says union of ONE man and ONE woman -- can't that mean "at a time" ??

how is this banning divorce?

As long as you marry a girl goat if you're a boy, and a boy goat if you're a girl.
Wouldn't want anyone to think we're perverts or anything...
:P

17. Here is how it bans divorce
Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.

One man and one woman. So if say a man gets divorced, then he couldnt marry again because it is only between one man and one women.

Maybe it should be one man and one woman at one time.

Uh....my point being if they want to protect marriage then ban divorce.

19. Even if correct, it would ban remarriage, not divorce, and annulment
has solved that little moral dilemna for quite some time now.

23. No - we're just missing an inaccurate interpretation.
In divorce, marriage is terminated.

So if a man and woman divorce, neither is married to anyone any more.

As soon as one remarries, it is AGAIN one and one woman.
