Help a nurse! LTTE's needed....Ahnold threatens to "kick nurse butt"
http://www.calnurse.org/?Action=Category&id=251

"When Gov. Schwarzenegger boasted in public that he'd "kick" nurse "butt", we weren't shocked. But you should be. The more he kisses up to the big hospital chains paying into his campaign funds, the worse for you."

"The Governor fought the law and the nurses won!"

On Friday, March 4, Sacramento Superior Court Judge Judy Holzer Hersher declared Governor Schwarzenegger's emergency regulation illegal! The decision issued by the judge means California hospitals must immediately restore safe staffing in emergency rooms and implement ratios of no more than one RN for every five patients in general medical units as they were supposed to do in January.

It's not over until it's over! Governor vows to continue to fight decision:
In a statement, Kim Belshe, Governor Schwarzenegger's secretary of health and human services, said the administration "strongly rejects" the ruling and will try to stop it from immediately taking effect. "We're confident in our actions and we're not backing down," she said, noting the state's action is "legally solid, keeps patients safe and ensures access to care."

3. Change teacher pay to a "merit" (political patronage) based system
Arnold's one proposal is to change teacher pay and promotion from a mixed seniority and "fully professionally qualified" system to a "merit" (political patronage) based system, which he characterizes as "best qualified".

In other states a "best qualified" or "merit based" system for subjective qualification based jobs have very quickly degenerated into political patronage.

Calling school teaching an "objective" based job is the same thing as using Bush's failed "No Child Left Behind" for pay and promotion and layoffs.

4. The attack on teachers and fire fighters etc. is an attack on CALPERS
CalPERS - the California Public Employees Retirement System - is on Arnold's enemies list. The system is honest and well run.

Arnold has two objections to CalPERS-

    1. CalPers is a defined benefits plan - and if the market (i.e., CalPERS' investments) performs poorly, the "full faith and credit of the taxpayers of California" pays the full defined benefits. This is one issue.

    2. CalPers votes the stocks in its portfolio as a concerned and conscientious shareholder - with responsibilities to its beneficiaries and to the community.
      a) CalPers as a shareholder and as a fiduciary agent for its beneficiaries seeks to remove poorly performing management (who may be Arnold's friends and/or big contributors).
      b) CalPers as a shareholder also seeks to influence its companies to do "socially good" activities. These are also Arnold's friends and contributors.

Arnold is getting no traction on this. Who are the people most respected by society?
    Teachers
    Nurses
    Firefighters

And who is Arnold fighting?
    Teachers
    Nurses
    Firefighters

    <><>

He's not getting any traction here either.

5. This is a loser for Arnold - puts him on side of "for profit" hospitals
And what is the "for profit" hospital chain that is most hated in California -- Bill Frist's HCA. HCA closed our busiest emergency room in San Jose, HCA-San Jose Medical Center at 6th Street and Santa Clara Street - in Downtown San Jose.

Right now, at least in Santa Clara County (Palo Alto, San Jose, "Silicon Valley") the worst thing you can do is follow Bill Frist on health care.

And the real beneficiary of Arnold's "rule" -- Bill Frist's HCA hospital chain.

This is a Battle of "Nurses against Arnold and Bill Frist's Health Care Monopoly.
