Peggy "Nooner" gives a DU shout-out in latest screed!
Looked, but didn't see this posted yet:

Everyone who has written in defense of Mrs. Schiavo's right to live has received e-mail blasts full of attacks that appear to have been dictated by the unstable and typed by the unhinged. On Democratic Underground they crowed about having "kicked the sh-- out of the fascists." On Tuesday James Carville's face was swept with a sneer so convulsive you could see his gums as he damned the Republicans trying to help Mrs. Schiavo. It would have seemed demonic if he weren't a buffoon.

149. in case anybody's counting
Peggy reaches 3.5 MILLION Wall Street Journal subscribers and millions more who get James Taranto's blog or who real RealClearPolitics. That's milions upon millions of readers. Now let's see...maybe 67,000 DUers in total, but only a tiny fraction actually in this thread.

Peggy just handed you your own balls, Skittles, and you didn't even realize it.

When are DUers are going to learn what they say here is public and every time we get trashed on MSM, we get pushed further and further into the margins of irrelevancy. All because ceratin DUers are too politically tone-deaf to know when they are doing more harm than good.

doesn't she have anything real (rather than virtual) to write about?
How about the many sympathetic and insightful posts here on the subject. Of course she is unfairly characterizing us. That's what she does.

Believe me, anything Peggy says about us is not going to damage our reputation among her readers--they already think of us as the loony left.

174. DU was right about WMD, about the real reasons for the war,
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 02:39 PM by Kurovski
about Bush's failures in protecting America against the 9/11 attacks. We were right about the tainted elections in 2004, 2002, and 2000. And our suspicions and criticisms of much of the MSM as a bought and paid for arm of the Republican party continue to prove valid.

We're correct to complain endlessly about the abysmal lack of coverage of recent massive anti-war protests while cable channels cover relatively small protests, 10 hours a day, to preserve the vegetative state of an unfortunate woman whose brain has degenerated into mostly fluid.

MSM has been wrong. did they lie? were they just lazy?

DU knew in advance of the war the things that some of the MSM later apologized for. The press did not heed plain facts and recent history in their rush to grant the White House every point on their planned-in-advance wish list for war in the Middle East. These included such outlets as the New York Times and The New Republic.

This is the reason "Peg'O'The Darts" bothers to give DU the time of day at all. we should welcome her twisted attention, which draws attention to her own immense and unethical failures as a member of the press.

Her membership in the press-corp should be worthy of respect. But that trust, a trust constitutionally protected, has been betrayed.

What I find most interesting is that Peggers represents a party that whines ceaselessly, vigorously and disingenuously about "elitists" .

From their well-paid perches, from face-lifted jaws and chemically-plumped lips, from under expensive toupees and out of designer outfits put together by highly paid advisers, every trained hand gesture used to express their disdain for the speech of the common man and woman.

Lofty Peggy thinks it's "unhinged" to declare that one has "kicked the sh-- out of the fascists."

The statement was taken out of context, somewhat surprising for a writer who graduated cum laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University. More surprising is that Peggy Noonan still manages to miss the fascist elements ascendant in our nation, If only by definition.

One wonders if Peg didn't blow her way through college in a great windy hurry, missing out on finer points. Indeed, perhaps this is the trajectory of her entire career.

Many of us on DU are blue-collar folk. I was raised among the steel-mills of South Chicago. And I don't like it when elitists like Noonan try to intimidate me into how I should express myself. When DU is attacked, a broad cross-section of regular Americans is attacked.

Not that politeness should be ignored, but when faced with horseshit and lies, a little verbal rough-housing is in order. And DU is a place for that, as it is also a place for high-mindedness. Just because a person isn't in possession of an expensive college degree doesn't mean they can't read and have the ability for critical thought.

Indeed, during campaign 2000, the press made a big honking deal about how George W. Bush "spoke just like the people". Well, that was a lie, too. Most Americans don't speak like fatuous, dishonest idiots. They really don't.

But when Noonan uses the august platform of the Wall Street Journal to promote (as she has in the past) war-hungry old men as hot little sex bombs, I think DU can be permitted to ask " What the hell is THAT shit all about? Talk about unhinged!"

and you're correct, it will never see the light of day in the WSJ, paper, or on-line. She took the quote out of context and Carville was sneering against Reslugs that politicized Shiavo, NOT against Reslugs that supposedly wanted to "help her".
Noonan looks at everything with her neo-con filters on, she wouldn't know the truth if it bit her in the ass.
She's a right wing whore who's too busy getting rich from the bush administration's policies to notice thousands of others dying each day BECAUSE of those policies.
And as to "reaching out" to WSJ readers.......they're mostly bushbots as well. She's preaching to her choir there and she knows it. Screw her, the WSJ and all of their subscribers. These are the people we're trying to overthrow, not the people we're trying to embrace.

Peggy - there are 67,000 people here at DU, some with well-established reputations as commentators and writers, other just ordinary folk, and, yes, a few who are probably a little tense. But in tarring this virtual community in this way you show more of your own instability than that of others.

Funny, but Frank Lutz was his other favorite guest until he was outed for the propagandist creep (1984 is my best resource!) that he is.

Makes you believe they all think alike or something.

Oh and of all the thousands of words and opinions on DU, she chooses that.

25. Cute
Dear Ms. Noonan,

It is curious that with the continuing lack of support for the president's nonexistent plan for Social Security and the serious ethical allegations made against Tom Delay that the GOP would insert itself into this issue. This was clearly a state issue, yet the party of states' rights saw fit to intervene. Why was that? Please forgive us for wondering if the tail isn't wagging the dog when we observe the current political situation and the blatant hypocrisy of violating a central tenet of your party's philosophy.

Further, have you noticed the self-appointed spokespeople of the right on this issue? They are advocating that the governor of Florida, the chief executive, override an issue that has been litigated repeatedly . The principle of res judicata is to be thrown overboard for 'the right thing to do.' The principle that this is a government of laws, not of men, is to be thrown overboard as well. Should people sit idly by and trust to the president and Mr. Delay to 'do the right thing?'

No. No citizen owes the government blind, unwavering trust. If we did, elections and impeachment provisions would be pointless. We might as well live by the divine right of kings in such a situation. If the citizens are the sovereign, then the sovereign has a moral duty to always question its elected representatives. To claim otherwise is a deriliction of duty as a citizen.

You are free to claim that the people here wish Mrs. Schiavo to die. That is your right. It is a lie, as even a cursory reading of 35 zillion threads on this subject would prove. But you are free to lie, if you so choose. I am sorry that you choose to do so, but that is your right. Incidentally, by supporting unjustified flouting of established legal principles, you weaken the very right you exercise. Please give that a thought or 30 before you see fit to issue blanket condemnations with zero ground in fact. Have a nice day.

Sincerely,

Adwon

P.S. Don't you have better things to do than surf the internet all day? I was under the impression you had a job.

33. My response sent to Noonan
Do you not understand LAW? When Ms. Shaivo became legal age she wasn't under her parents authority, when Ms. Shaivo married, her closet relative (family) became her husband.

Her husband has dutifully fought for her recovery for three years. All experts agree there will be no recovery, her cerebral cortex is liquid, this case is being exploited by the right wing zealots.

The courts have continually ruled in favor of the husband ACCORDING TO THE LAW she should be removed from "life support". Only the hypocrisy from the right wing zealots would try to undue the law.

While thousands of innocent lives have been killed in Iraq "FOR DEMOCRACY" (latest excuse), the Right Wingers tout the reasons for this - what actually amounts to a power play for control in the Middle East.

When it comes to 1 person who is already brain dead you pretend to care for human life.

What happened in Fallujha? How many innocents were murdered there? Where was your outrage there? HIPPOCRATES is just another name for Republicans these days.

You are probably one of the most sickening of the RW talking heads that I have seen, phone and condescending to boot.

Take it from me - your days are numbered, there is a simmer growing to a boil of anger and when the boil starts you will be one of those on the casualty list - scalded.

34. She couldn't be more wrong
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 05:50 PM by Jack Rabbit

Why are they so committed to this woman's death?

They seem to have fallen half in love with death.

What does Terri Schiavo's life symbolize to them? What does the idea that she might continue to live suggest to them?

Why does this prospect so unnerve them? Again, if you think Terri Schiavo is a precious human gift of God, your passion is explicable. The passion of the pull-the-tube people is not.

Is that her argument? What nonsense.

Ms. Noonan, if you are lurking here at the moment, it is not a matter of being "in love with death". Trust me, I'm not. But I don't want to end up like Ms. Schiavo, either.

My father, who is 93, has a piece of paper squirreled away somewhere (notarized, I hope, in light of these events) that says he wants no extraordinary measures used to prolong his life if there is nothing else that can be done for him. Since my sister died suddenly last year, the decision to pull his plug will probably be mine. I don't relish it. I hope I won't have to make the decision. It will not be an easy one.

But I will carry out his wishes if it comes down to that. And I don't want Tom DeLay, Randall Terry, the Bush brothers or you standing in my way. It's not your business or theirs.

The outrage is fear that religious fascists (yes, I think the word appropriate) will take that decision away from those of us who would make it. The outrage is that these people, in a perversion of the First Amendment that guarantees freedom of religion, would use the power of the state to impose their religious values on what should be a private decision.

I do not understand their certainty. I don't "know" that any degree of progress or healing is possible for Terri Schiavo; I only hope they are. We can't know, but we can "err on the side of life." How do the pro-death forces "know" there is no possibility of progress, healing, miracles? They seem to think they know. They seem to love the phrases they bandy about: "vegetative state," "brain dead," "liquefied cortex."

It isn't a question of any one's certainty, Ms. Noonan. The likelihood that Ms. Schiavo will be restored to the state she was fifteen years ago is extremely low. Reasonable people can agree with that much. Mr. Schiavo has done all anyone can be expected to do. He has tried to get on with his life, starting a family with another woman. He can't quite get on with it because he is legally married to something that isn't capable of living what a reasonable person would call a human life -- certainly no longer capable of returnng his love as he would desire -- yet is not dead. If you have no compassion for that, and your piece gives no hint that you do, then please spare me your righteous platitudes. They are empty.

I will take Mr. Schiavo at his word that his wife did not want to end up like this. My father does not want to end up like Ms. Schiavo. I, too, will prefer the plug be pulled rather than be in such a state. I am outraged at those who would use the power of the state to obligate us to otherwise because we don't share their shallow idea of "life".

<Everyone who has written in defense of Mrs. Schiavo's right to live has received e-mail blasts full of attacks that appear to have been dictated by the unstable and typed by the unhinged.

On Democratic Underground they crowed about having "kicked the sh-- out of the fascists.">

she IMPLIES through proximity of these sentences that DU is somehow responsible for organizing those "email blasts", but she doesn't specifically say it.

They can spin the bull as much as they want, but the public has already formed their opinions and the republicans are wrong. Congress had no right to do what they did and Jeb has no right either.

As for what we want...heaven forbid we should want Terri's wishes granted. :eyes:

57. This is one of those moments, when I look around me --
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 06:16 PM by Cats Against Frist
(and usually these moments come every time that the Republican buffoons in the U.S. House of Representatives start their childish hijinks) -- and I KNOW for certain that I am smarter, more stable, more educated and more logical than many of the people in charge of stewarding our nation and leading public opinion.

Noonan starts off her painfully ignorant diatribe with a logical fallacy (a false delimma), and never looks back -- and creates numerous additional logical fallacies, as her juvenalia cascades down the page -- in a column as poorly written as one your greenhorn college journalism student might crank out after a night of carousing, with a 9 a.m. deadline.

I am amazed -- no, I am APPAULED that this woman has both the space and the gall to present the American public with ramblings based on near-insane, superstitious, sentimental drivel, and that the country has come to a place where hundreds of these right-wing, knee-jerking whack-jobs have any ears (or eyes) pointed in their direction.

Let me blow your mind, Peggy: I wish that Schaivo be allowed to die with dignity, and I don't give a shit about whales -- I mean, in terms of the sentimentality. Of course, anyone with a BRAIN (which excludes the target audience of all right-wing propaganda) might understand the potential dangers of upsetting the ecosystem or the food chain, in which, of course, the whale is an integral actor.

This is because, Peggy, there are some of us who still think -- and have always thought in terms of reason -- rather than ideology, superstition, emotional pandering suckage, delusion, hysteria and any number of other useless rhetorical devices that culminated in this laughable column.

These people really have gone fucking nuts.

63. ISN'T MRS. NOONAN A BIT OLD TO BE SO MILITANT?
Back in the days when I did watch Faux News and Noonan would come on programs like Hannity and "whats his name", dressed in some leather thing acting like she was some twenty year old hoochie mama shaking her ass!

Mrs. Noonan: Since you obviously read these blogs you are way to old to be behaving like a 20 year old hoochie! Knock it off! A woman who looks like she is in her late 60's should not dress like that. It is disgusting! Also, your condescending grandmotherly type attitude on these shows is utterly laughable. I am embarrassed for you.

Now for your rant... "Libruuls" did not bring this issue on. Conservatives did. I have not heard one democrat yet proclaim that they wish Mrs. Schaivo would not recover somehow and EVERYONE expresses sympathy for the family. It is tragic and I am saddened that conservatives like you have made this into a circus and the polls reflect the disgust for the conservatives.

All you're appealing to now are the insane religious fanatics, a very small (albeit vocal) fringe group. This is a miscalculation of epic proportions that will soon have you and your ilk scurrying under the nearest rock in the next election, gathering moss and slowly rotting away.

The Republican party is now so far out of the mainstream, so repulsive to average Americans, so out-of-control, that your insane ranting is little more than the last blow left in the bellows of your empty soul. Enjoy your ticket to political obscurity.

A feeding tube is manipulation by man. Let nature take its course and let this woman find peace. Of course, you got the reason that we've been emotional all wrong. Had you done a few minutes, yes, just a few minutes of investigative journalism (I doubt you even know how) you would have uncovered the reason we are seething. We are seething because our government decided to use this one family's tragedy for their political gain. We're seething because the Congress and the President tried to do an end run around the judiciary. We are seething because our current government thinks they can poke their fingers into private individual's lives with impunity.

Not a one of us is foaming at the mouth about wanting the death of that poor shell of a woman.

Peggy, you are a right wing media whore. Please get your mouth off of the President's penis and start doing some real journalism. It's far more ethical than what you do right now and it will probably be much easier on your knees.

87. In all fairness to Miss Noonan, allow the woman to outline her own
social plan. I'm sure she'll support raising taxes so we can improve Medical Insurance for ALL Americans and coma patients in particular should become wards of the state. We should be footing that bill for everyone in a similar state as Terry's. Since it has been determined that the number one reason for family bankruptcies is health costs, then Miss Noonan does this country a great service for calling for an increase in taxes to help all such cases.

What a kind lady, that Peggy is.

Remind me again why do we even comment on conservative idiots like Peggy? On that note, I'll like to add that she can blow me too after she's done with everyone else. I'll take sloppy thirds, forths, or how ever many she blown before me.

Anyway, the Republican party got themselves in a jam that they can't get themselves out of in this one. They thought that by interfering with the Schiavo case, that it would have a positive affect for them politically. It ended up smacking them in the face.

And if the Republicans keep siding with their far-right Christian base, it will turn their moderates against them.

94. My response:
I find it ironic how you choose only to highlight the hypocrisy of fringe groups without acknowledging the blatant hypocrisy of our so-called leaders. Have you heard of a little bill titled the Advance Directives Act? This law, which provides for the ability of a hospital to end life-sustaining measures for a patient when their condition is deemed terminally irreversible without the consent of the person serving as the power of attorney, was signed by none other than George W. Bush. But we don't need to mention that. Think nothing of the hypocrisy of the religious right, who consistently support politicians that undermine the best interests of the poverty stricken and down trodden. The same people who speak so passionately of "God's will" and heaven, but fight tooth and nail to keep you from getting there and who have actively chosen to exploit this woman's misfortune. Instead you attack segments of a party that are hardly representative of the whole, with the implication ! ! that they do represent the whole. You fail to criticize those who endorse cutting Medicaid funding (which sustains Ms. Schiavo) or who refuse to support stem cell research, which could help millions who are suffering. Instead you criticize a party that works to ensure that all Americans have access to health care, and to protect those who are disabled, disadvantaged and veterans. You trivialize the findings of the medical community, the majority of whom agree that Ms. Schiavo's condition is irreversible, though it is their work that has kept her alive thus far. I suppose science is simply a convenience. I suppose we should ignore the facts and wait for a miracle, but then if for miracles and not science, Ms. Schiavo would have died 15 years ago. You trivialize that which the courts uphold again and again to be Ms. Schiavo's wish. Apparently a person has no will, just a life that must be protected at all costs, even if it means overriding that person's right to make their own choices about their life. What we, the "pull-the-tube" types, fear most is the desire of right-wing politicians to erode our most basic rights under the guise of morality, imposed morality at that. This issue amounts to nothing more than political pandering, and you are just as guilty of such. Why rely on facts when you have so much self righteous indignation readily available.

Just a thought--have you noticed that anybody who condemns those of us in favor of Michael Schiavo's defense of Terri's wishes--have never articulated the desire to be in her place? Even as a hypothetical, what an expression of solidarity for the right to live at all costs, to truly experience the imaginary horrors she simply MUST be enduring. Not a damn one of them wants to take her place.

The right-wing idiots will follow anything their masters tell them to. Peggy isn't part of the Republican Party, she's owned by them. I can't believe some of the talking points that they adopt on this Schiavo case without even looking at the facts. Most people that I talked to wouldn't what to be kept alive in a situation like that. It has been a difficult time. The coming victory is going to be the biggest good thing that has happened in the world, the West and the United States since the twin towers fell...

Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 10:06 PM by oxbow
NEW YORK While Americans were riveted by dramatic events unfolding in Pinellas Park, Fla., a five-month-old Houston baby took his last breath after a hospital let him die despite his mother's objections.

Sun Hudson (search) was born Sept. 25 with thanatophoric dysplasia (search), an incurable and fatal form of dwarfism. Doctors said his tiny lungs would never fully grow and that he would never breathe on his own.

Hudson's mother, Wanda, put up a fight when doctors advised removing Sun from a respirator. She said she did not believe in sickness or death.

But on March 15, a Texas law signed by then-Gov. George W. Bush (search) in 1999 allowed the hospital to go ahead and take Sun off the respirator in defiance of Wanda Hudson's wishes.

While the battle over Terri Schiavo (search) has drawn dozens of outraged protesters to her Florida hospice, Sun's story made nary a bleep on the nation's radar. The few media outlets that picked up his story predictably drew parallels to the Schiavo case, and some experts have charged the president with hypocrisy.

"The Texas statute that Bush signed authorized the ending of the life, even over the parents' protest. And what he's doing here is saying, 'The parents are protesting. You shouldn't stop ,'" John Paris, a medical ethicist at Boston College, told Newsday.

And much better then any DUer could ever hope for; for that matter, the world certainly agrees. I honestly feel sorry for her. Her virtues are so misguided.

Peg and her oil-whore buds should lay down their pens, head for a recruitment office and sign-up for a good ole tour of duty. Uncle Sam needs you, Peg, since you seem to enjoy lingering pain, and morbid sufferings of sacrificial victims, and self-martyring.

The only factor the world is witnessing at present of Peg and her eccentric, fanatically privileged, elite, and ever-diminishing poor ethical crowd, and yes, unhinged supporters is just that a defeated group of arrogant, immoral, pious, sanctimonious and most uncompassionate, uncaring, sickly bias gang of ultra-extremists whom dont give a damn about anyone but yourselves. Pegs single-handedly made a fortune upon those that suffer. Shes void of empathy, and self-sympathetic. Un-benevolent describes you, Peg.

With that said, Peggy Please, do the world a favor and go screw yourself. But please, dont breed. The world can do without anymore of your kind haughty, ludicrous and brainless beings, like yourself.

P.S. I hear your base has good drug company connections. Youve on an express ride to the gates of un-hinged-ness. At least I place a higher value on morals and quote you.

Every time I see her, I think of Larry David. (Not that she is funny or looks like him or anything.) The first week that Air America was on air, I heard Marty Kaplan interviewing Larry David on "So What Else Is News?" Larry was telling Kaplan that he watches "Crossfire" and "Hardball" and all the rest of the political shows, only he mutes the volume when the conservatives talk because they make him sick. Marty asked him about specific commentators and he said that the repubs or conservatives were mostly nuts. When Marty asked Larry about Peggy Noonan, Larry said, "Oh my God, when she comes on I have to change the channel. Because if I had to hear one word that she says, I couldn't live. I'd have to kill myself. With that breathless, overly-dramatic voice-I'd have to die. I couldn't make it through the rest of the day."

135. Hold on, Ms. Noonan.
I remember several sometimes contentious threads when we struggled with what should be done, and how. We discussed our own heartfelt experiences. I remember many showing great empathy for the parents - and Mr. Schiavo. We wrestled with who should be her guardian, and unlike many others on other sites, many facts were presented gleened from the trial witnesses.

One thing we all agreed upon was the LAW. We knew that the federal judiciary had no business getting involved with this case, and that, if they did, horrible case precedent would be set.

To my fellow DUers:
I am kind of proud to have one of my compatriots quoted on the editorial page of one of the newspapers with HUGE circulation.

Why oh why are those evil "pull-the-tube people" "half in love with death?" Dear God, make James Carville stop sneering. He's scaring the children.

Jeez. Okay, honey, here's my take on this. I don't know how much of your writing you actually believe and I'm not going pretend that I know your heart. But I do know that you're a rightwing propagandist spouting the latest swill. The Republicans have been making mistakes with unpopular proposals, Tom DeLay is chin deep in his own doo doo, and Iraq is still a quagmire even with the purple fingers. So what does the playbook say to do when you're in trouble and out of actual good ideas? How about frame your opponent and define his supposed take on the issues before he does it himself. Keep the messages simple and limited to short, preferably two-word slogans. Most important, facts be damned.

And the latest Rovian swill is (drumroll): Repubs good - life. Dems bad - death. "Activist judges" - very very bad. Must stop filibuster. Must approve all judicial nominees. Constitution irrelevant. Must stomp enemy into the ground while appearing, well, angelic.

Got it, Peggy.

"Marriage is only between a man and a woman. . .and Tom DeLay."

166. Don't bother
She's not going to read it. Just look at the responses the Journal posted on the page. Almost all in support of her crap-fest. She and Bush have one more thing in common-they only get to hear people who agree with them.

157. my comment to Wall Street Journal writer:
May I suggest that if you believe that life is sacred to the point of maintaining the life a woman completely dependent on others, that you write about----and see through----the maintenance of Medicaid which is in much worse shape than Social Security. Terri Shiavo's existence is made possible by 3 things: 1. a $700,000 lawsuit that has been utilized to her benefit (Republicans would curtail attorneys' ability to retrieve such sums; indeed, this is already happening) 2. Medicaid which is not being attended to by the Republican led Congress 3. The goodness of Hospice people.

165. My email to her:
Dear Peggy,

Thank you very much for promoting Democratic Underground in your article. We, who are committed to fighting for democracy, are grateful for the attention.

I have one question for you.

Why are you so committed to prolonging this brain-dead woman's suffering?

Because, as a doctor wrote in an editorial in the SF Chronicle, the only thing this woman can feel is pain - the only thing she responds to is noxious stimuli - noxious means pain. No joy, no love, no human interaction, just pain or nothing.

It is cruel and inhumane to prolong her life.

168. She's just upset that they took her advice...
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 06:59 PM by nankerphelge
and it backfired horribly. Salon has a pretty good article on it:

http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room /

"The next time Peggy Noonan offers GOP leaders free advice, for the sake of their party they might want to beg off. It was just one week ago that the Wall Street Journal columnist sounded the alarm for conservatives, urging Republicans -- for their own self-interest -- to take every step possible in order to save Terri Schiavo. "You have to pull out all the stops," Noonan implored."

"A key element of Noonans strategy, besides the fact that it would please the GOPs pro-life base, was her insistence that the maneuver was completely risk-free because there was "just about no one" on the other side to oppose Republicans -- nobody who supported Michael Schiavo, the disaffected husband. No one, that is, accept for "the few bearded and depressed-looking academics he's drawn to his side." According to Noonan, "Politically this is a struggle between many serious people who really mean it and one, just one, strange-o." Better yet: "Move to help Terri Schiavo, and no one will be mad at you." In other words, a lay-up for Republicans."

... it goes on to point out the obvious; you were so very wrong , Ms. Loonan!

169. I liked her better when she had a crush on John Edwards.....
http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pnoonan/?id=11...

<<snip>>Mr. Edwards is going to be bigger than the Democrats and Republicans think. You can talk about how vice-presidential nominees don't make a difference, or about how they can maybe lose it for you but not win it, but watch him. He's going to be a better candidate than Mr. Kerry (which the campaign seems to be conceding with their latest ads, which feature not Mr. Kerry talking about the future but Mr. Edwards vouching for Mr. Kerry).

Mr. Edwards has the sun on his face. He's a happy man, and happy candidates have unseen power. He has successfully hidden his desire for personal power behind a "people vs. the powerful" populism, and he sees no reason to believe he's going to get busted now. The compelling personal story--he's a one-man John Grisham novel--the kids, the smile. His wife looks and acts like a normal American woman who didn't turn her accomplishments into a gritty sense of entitlement and whose engine is not a robust resentment.

<<snip>>

170. My reply to her. Hope she runs it.
I don't understand how people can claim to be pro-life, when their government just sold truckloads of weaponry to India and Pakistan today. I don't understand how people who claim to be pro-life can drop bombs on innocent people in Iraq, and lie about it. I don't understand how people who claim to be pro life cut funding for medicaid and hospitals and schools. I don't know how people who claim to be pro life can support capitol punishment.

Get a clue: No one wants her to die, but, living is obviously not an option any longer. We didn't give her the heart attack. There are 35,000 people in this position every day, and none of us wants the congress or senate making these decisions for us. This isn't about Terri, it's about the role of our government. And the government has no role here. DeLay and Frist were caught on tape and on paper using this as a political wedge issue. Get a clue. You're working for the bad guys. The axis of evil is in Washington DC, and you're supporting it.

175. Peg missed the death threats to leaders, the gun theft, and
and the assassination for hire dude when she talks about "unhinged" and the following:

' And why do those who argue for Mrs. Schiavo's death employ language and imagery that is so violent and aggressive? The chairman of the Democratic National Committee calls Republicans "brain dead." Michael Schiavo, the husband, calls House Majority Leader Tom DeLay "a slithering snake." '
