I was reading over in LBN. bush's second term, on the whole, is looking like a clusterfuck. He can't get anywhere on SS, his approval rating is down to 43%, this whole fundie bullshit Terri Schiavo stuff is backfiring HARD on them (mostly because the fundies, who really DON'T make up a big part of our population, are SO pissed off about this and abortion, etc, and they have given the fundies so much power, so now they will suffer for it). He just promised Fox he'd try to get Congress to lighten up in immigration laws even MORE, making bushbots' heads everywhere explode. Seems a lot of regular bush voters are experiencing buyer's remorse. Military recruitment down, the economy is shitty, despite what the whores on TV try to tell us.

And suddenly I remembered the first section of Fahrenheit 9/11, where Michael Moore is narrating what bush's first several months in 2001 were like. He couldn't get any of his judges appointed, the missle defense stuff was practically being laughed at, his approval ratings were way down.

And then. We all know what happened. Now I am NOT MIHOP, ok? Seriously, I'm not.

I HAVE considered LIHOP. It's hard not to when you find out how many blatant, specific warnings were just tossed aside and ignored. And when you read a detailed timeline of that day and see how badly everything was fucked up from the word go.

And now, it seems, we are primed for yet another HUGE DISTRACTION.

My fellow DUers, I honestly, sincerely, completely hope I'm TOTALLY WRONG on this.

Yeah, 75 days or something like that, right?

So they need some HUGE distraction before 75 days from now, so the draft will fly.

Well, now I'm even more unsettled. I read it would be males AND females, aged 18-39.

Let them TRY to draft me. I'll go to prison first, I really will.

128. I think a draft would come after another War on someone has started
and following a terror attack on our country of some kind. It's the only way they could "justify" it without mass protest. First they would probably have an attack on US soil of some kind to then use as justification for going to war, then they would just bomb the crap out of that place they are starting a war (use their bunker busters and every other imaginable bomb) then they would say that we need to "draft" people....

And yes, sadly, I think Ritter and Hersh are right on....I just think that it might not be June, but maybe a little later than that....but either way, I think its within the next 6 months.....

Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 01:41 PM by FreedomAngel82
If it does happen I think it'll happen and nobody will know unless they watch CSPAN or check out liberal blogs and radio shows. When the righties get hit with the draft it'd be too late for them to run and hide. Remember: Bush promised them there wouldn't be a draft so it'd be a huge political suicide if he did have one. So something has to happen.

28. Me, either.
When I was at A&M, I used to protest the bonfire, because I felt it was horribly dangerous, a bad accident waiting to happen (hundreds of whole trees stacked up on muddy ground, soaked with jet fuel for three days, and then lit on fire by thousands of drunken college students, I don't know, sounds safe, right?).

I used to tell the other people protesting with me "God I hope we're wrong, I really do."

In 1997, the bonfire collapsed while being built, killing several students and paralyzing others. When I found out, I fell to my knees in my living room and cried. I kept telling my husband "I wanted to be WRONG!!!"

Before the war in Iraq, I wanted to be wrong. I wanted them to go in there and find TONS of WMDS and airtight PROOF SH was going to use them against us.

I wanted to be wrong, and wasn't again.

:-(

54. With Bush and his people
it's easy to predict what will happen. Feelings on these issues also help too. Before the election I had a feeling something big will bring Bush and company down and I still don't sense anything past 2006 with him. So I don't know what it could be. But all you have to do is know Bush and his administration and how they work. One thing you can count on with them is they never change their ways. They might change plans and whatnot but everything else is the same. Just different inputs and outcomes.

16. You're not the only one
Things haven't been going well for Boy King since his re-coronation last year.

He can only ride the 9/11-terrorists-with-us-or-against-us train for so long, and it seems that his engine is running out of steam as we speak.

I was talking with my grandmother last week--I thought she was farily apolitical but found out in November that she's voted in every election since she was legally able to do so (She's 68 this year). She watched F911 and was completely OUTRAGED at what she saw.

We were talking about the phony terror-alert-system and I asked her "So, they completely ignored alll the warnings leading up to 9/11, even the very detailed memo that said Bin Laden was going to use planes to attack America. And we're supposed to believe that if there's ANOTHER planned terrorist attack, and they know about it, that they'll TELL us? Give me a frigging break" and she said "Honey, you're absolutely right".

She said in all of her 68 years, living through the depression, WWII, Vietnam, Korean War, etc, she's NEVER been in times like the times we're living today, and she's certain that GW and his cronies are evil incarnate living on this planet.

It's truly terrifying.

I remember 9/11. I remember seeing the planes fly into buildings and I told my husband "Everything's changed now. They can do whatever they want in the name of security" and oh god...I thought I had a handle on how bad it would be...i had NO idea..NO idea

47. I'm sorry and hope I'm wrong too....
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 01:43 PM by Pachamama
What scares me is that I had seen this in dreams over 5 years ago...and so have others that I know from the Amazon....I'm not kidding when I say that....I have talked to people who are spiritual seers and they are all seeing it too...I even go to a woman in Berkeley who is a Psychologist as well as a spiritual student of Sai Baba and travels to see him in India every year. Sai Baba (who is about Love) has seen this too and many people who have been meditating have been seing the same thing. And the Psychologist in her says specifically that I am not paranoid or crazy.

Many of us are trying to put love and intentions into the Universe with our open hearts to counter this evil....but its becoming very strong what we are fighting....

The opposite of love is fear....I try to let in love and not let that fear get to me....unfortunately, the reality of the situation is pretty serious...and I'm not sure there is enough love out there to counter the evil intentions and fear.....some pretty powerful stuff is going on....doesn't matter what your spiritual beliefs are, but it is a battle of light and darkness....ironically, the good will of some "believers" who want good is being used by dark forces and they can't see it....

131. Odd
After Shrub was re-elected, I kept getting a weird, cold sensation once in awhile. I still get it but it seems weaker or I just got used to it. I do feel as though things will fall apart soon. Check out John Titor. I also see a renewed time with Christianity being damaged beyong repair. Fundies would destroy the whole thing just to get raptured.

84. Don't forget Poland...er, North Korea
Wouldn't necessarily have to be in the Middle East; isn't it true that North Korea has missles that can hit the west coast?

And we're in a little bit of a tussle with China over Taiwan as well.

My tinfoilhat theory is the North Korea will strike at this year's shindig at Bohemian Grove.

Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 06:06 PM by TheGoldenRule
and I've been trying to guess for awhile now just where the next MIHOP or LIHOP attack will take place. I have thought that the West Coast could be a target...but to see that others think the same...well, to say the least, I am scared shitless.... :scared:

Also...there was another thread about testing going on at an airport near Washington D.C. on April 23rd. I even thought that meant that the attack would be on the east coast, but now, I'm not so sure... However, the time frame does fit-give or take day or two-since that would give * & Co time to implement the draft by the middle or end of June.

That said...OMG, right now I am freaking out!!! Do these bastards intend to just wipe out the entire West Coast North to South???!!!

126. I hesistated mentioning what I and others have felt, because we have to
balance "fighting these people" and their evil and fear, by not putting more fear out there, but rather love and positive intentions, but there is also the fact that one needs to balance that with being realistic and aware and prepared for what can happen because of these people.

I think every one of us who is well educated, understands history and what has happened throughout US history and worldwide by Govt's in many Nations that behave tyrannical and fascist, and by simply watching what these neo-cons in the White House, Pentagon, GOP controlled Congress & Senate and the Corporate controlled Media are doing to our country - KNOWS that the situation is dire and this last week's events with the Social Security Piratization tour, the ANWR vote, the Bankruptcy Bill, the appointments of John Bolton and Paul Wolfowitz and now this beyond bizarre and heinous and UNCONSTITUTIONAL Efforts by the White House and Congress to circumvent the Constitution and insert themselves into this family matter should be warning to us all that the situation we have been worried about is more real than we can imagine. They are working at warp speed...they are testing their limits and seeing how much resistance and opposition they get and how far they can push the limits. And all the while, they are putting the things in place that they will need to do what they want.

I'm really concerned and afraid....they are scary, scary people who will stop at nothing. That's why we need to be prepared. I'm doing what I can to be grounded spiritually and mentally for what is coming. Financially, we are consolidating our monies and selling off properties. We are about to "downsize" our house and lock into a lower monthly payment on a house where we will have solar power and could grow food and have chickens etc. if needed and be near things within even walking distance. We are getting money out of the country. We are avoiding large city areas as much as possible (I live in Marin, and don't go into San Francisco unless I absolutely need to). Am I crazy? Funny thing is that my Psychologist doesn't think so and neither do two people I know who are psychologists, in fact they say I'm completely sane and very calm and logical.

I know this much - I have very strong intuitions and its when I have not listened to them that I have always regretted it. I also have some family history that I believe is supposed to be a lesson for me to remember: I'm half Danish, half German....My father's family escaped Nazi Germany in January of 1939, he was a young boy. My Grandfather, a Bavarian engineer/scientist and teacher and his brothers who were Doctors and Lawyers in Munich saw what was going on with the nut job Hitler and the Nazi party. They had seen it for years throughout the 1930's and they were increasingly alarmed by it. A great Uncle of mine died in Nazi custody for questioning them about what they were doing to Jewish colleagues of his at the University in Schwabing in Munich. Within two months after KristallNacht, they left Germany. They had money outside of the country and they up and left....they were Catholic, not Jewish, but they knew it was time to leave and leave fast, literally, leaving their homes in Gruenwald (south of Munich) and near the Starnberg Lake and took their belongings such as jewelry and photos and up and left. Ironically, my Mother's family, is Danish and her parents and grandparents and other family members (she is younger than my Dad and wasn't born until after WWII) but her family was part of the Danish resistance that helped the exodus of the Jews into Sweden to avoid the planned Nazi extermination.

I know, in my heart, in my soul that the lessons and history of my Grandparents was to prepare me to recognize evil and fascism. Make no mistake America, it has come to our front door and if we don't prepare and fight it, it will be too late. I am prepared and am like I said "preparing mentally and spiritually"....but I have to live my life, be there for my family and be grounded for them. I can't let my kids (under 5) feel the fear or know the evil....but I need to be able to protect them and I know what's coming.

135. Calif.'s fault-line...could be "coaxed" along with underground blasts
Or some under-the-ocean drilling could accidentally cause a "quake"...slightly off-shore...causing a nice-size Tsunami. The first one still "bothers" me. But saying that makes me "tin foil," so I won't say it. I didn't...

But what if the first was just a test?

Plus the West Coast has a lot of Liberals...is primarily "Blue." They wouldn't even have to "fix" the '08 Election, if the whole West Coast drops off. Of course a certain Calif. Gov. would have to be conveniently out of town. Maybe he could go visit Jeb?

. . .or time for W to bring Osama out of the White House basement and parade him around the White House grounds. Whatever the distraction, AmPrav will drop all the coverage on W's mistakes for 24/7 rally-round-the-glorious-leader coverage.

Just the other day I was talking to a former Marine who lost friends in the Beirut bombing of 1982 and how Reagan quickly shifted focus from that mess to the glorious liberation of Grenada. Is there a small South American country that we can liberate?

Or maybe its time for Operation: Annex Canada.

No matter what we come up with, the reality is probaly even more ludicrous and scarier.

Nothing is going his way. And we know what happens when W doesn't get his way. I think it'd be premature if they do an attack though. But also nobody is joining the military and they want to still bang those war bongo's. So what are they going to do? The only reason why Bush got things done last time was because of the fear and wanting to "get revenge" for 9/11.

57. To tell the truth, I'm worried about this coming weekend.
Great symbolism, an attack on Easter Sunday.

The draft needs a 75 day implementation. The rumors say, June. That means, before the end of the month. Also, those drafted need minimum 18 weeks for boot and specialty training. 18 weeks from June takes us to mid October-November, well after the debilitating summer heat for a new invasion of Iran or Syria.

I worry about this weekend.

61. THERE IS NO HARM IN TELLING EVERYONE!!!!
The best case scenario is we are dead-wrong, nothing bad happens, and our friends and families think we're nuts.

The second-best case scenario is we get this 'wacky conspiracy theory' some serious air and get everyone talking about us 'crazy folk' so that IF the administration is planning something- they will have to reconsider it and find another way.
(Kind of like when we all said they would produce Osama before the elections... and it happened differently than we expected.)

The worst case scenario is we are right - and then we can get larger numbers of people seriously questioning what's going on.
Our friends and families will be more likely to listen, and the Administration will have shot itself in the foot.

SO TELL EVERYONE WHAT YOU FEAR!!!

happening is a great many people now are aware that things weren't what they looked like on 9/11 and will be watching any event super close, ready to blow the whistle. 70. A nagging darkness...
There is an unsettling feeling that has been in the back of my mind for the last couple of weeks. Something keeps whispering to me, "Something is not right. Something is dreadfully wrong. Be careful. Be ready." Everything seems out of whack and there is this horrible stirring in my blood when I meditate. It's as if there is something just below the surface of the water that I can see but not quite make out. You know that feeling you get when you walk into a room where there was just an altercation? It's like that -- a sort of tenseness, but all of the time. A sort of great unease. I am also having nightmares that are terrifying, but when I wake up I cannot recall them. But I know that when I watch the news, when I read it, there is something dark there -- ever present and just on the edge of my field of vision... an approaching and threatening darkness. Fear. Sweaty sticky nasty noxious fear.

Are just so ridiculous when you apply childlike critical thinking skills. Add to the fact that the coverups that followed the 911 events are too incredible to believe.

IE. We're told that Bin Ladin did it, yet B*** has some of the most incredible, mind boggling ties to the Bin Ladin family, and then they forcefully close any investigation on the Bin Ladin family.

Just one of the mind blowing "coincidences" surrounding the official version of 911.

Now you add the fact that NOONE, and I repeat NOOONE benefitted more from 911 than the PNAC agenda. Not one of their plans could have been pulled off w/out 911.

These people are complete fanatics, and in the desparate times they are facing, they will not hesitate to resort to incredibly desparate measures.

We know Bush is capable of such. We also know that he is losing serious ground (ie control):

70+% of ALL Americans feel Iraq is going very poorly
Very little support on his Social Security "reform" bill

81. Courage, friends...
I agree with you all... but I also disagree.
I don't blame you for feeling this way, and I can't say I would put it past 'em...
But tell me, what can you do about it, right now?
Yes, express your misgivings; you're likely right, and it probably is just a matter of time either way...
And keep watchful... or take a break for a day or two, if you must... it is important for us to remain strong and focused and firm...
Courage is not a matter of feeling no fear; it is a matter of being afraid, terribly so, but still not letting that fear control you or render you helpless or senseless.
Whatever occurs, we must remain alert and cool-headed; they cannot possibly manage their next crisis as effectively as they did the first.
Much of this culture is involved in hiding from you all one simple fact:
You are made of MUCH sterner stuff than you know.
And as many of you are probably already aware, the Chinese word for crisis is the same as the word for opportunity.
For myself, I KNOW this much to be true: There is ALWAYS hope, as long as life and breath remains.
Courage, good friends...
It's truly all we've got now.

LOOK INTO MY EYES!

YOU ARE BECOMING
VERY, VERY FEARFUL!

C'mon folks... it's only a monster.
It can only frighten you as much as you LET it.
And remember, it's actually MUCH more frightened of you than you are of it.

85. With that being said....
by you and many others, is there really any chance that we would fall for it again? I mean fool me, what...., like about a hundred times? It's clearly past the "shame on me" stage.

This is why it still angers me that the '98 PNAC letter isn't all over the news. Or the recent developments in the UK that show the plan that was in the works even before 9/11.

Even so, could we really fall for it again?

101. We couldn't. But the 30% of solid Bushites would gladly do so,
and they could panic a good portion of the 40% unknowing middle to go along with them.

The repubs have spent years rigging the game in their favor. They have the press, and if there's a terror attack they can say "this is why we need to fight these murderers!" and if there isn't a terror attack they can say "see? It's working! That's why we can't let up on these murderers!"

Shortly after the election there were a couple "I'm not afraid" threads here. Person after person stood up to say "I will keep fighting, I'm not afraid of the fascists". Well, scared as I am, I am still not afraid. But there's something else.

I'm tired.

In the past four months things have been coming at us at an incredible rate; new tragedies, new insanities, new distractions. I can't begin to keep count of them. It's like trying to keep track of a room full of hyper-active six year olds. Every day I wake up wondering what the new crisis will be.

And if I am worn down by it, knowing what they are doing, I can only imagine the tension level of that middle 40% who barely have a clue. They are the ones who bought the plastic and duct tape. They are the ones who said "the government must know something about WMD that they aren't telling us -- they're the government, after all".

It almost makes me wish something would happen, just to relieve the tension and clear the air.

don't have time to read all the posts here, skimmed some - BUT the thing is, so many THOUSANDS of Americans already suspect Bush & Co. engineered 9/11 (and they did) - they are going to have a hell of a time pulling off another.

Since the Repubs voted for this group based on the fact that they were all scared to death of the "terrorists" and looking for a father figure to save them, and if this group doesn't, I don't think they're all going to be rallying around the flag this time...... they might just be pissed. But then I would be giving them credit for having any smarts whatsoever, and I could be wrong.

108. to add more:
it's in reference to 9/11.

LIHOP: The administration knew about the attacks in advance, and let them happen.

MIHOP: The administration, via Poppy Bush's CIA & mudjahdeen contacts, engineered the 9/11 attacks, ala Poppy's very own Project Northwoods idea from the early 60's.

95. If it helps...
I've had the same feelings for a little while now. Admittedly, I do lean towards LIHOP (sorry, but there's a point where a multiptude of conincidences cease to remain coincidental...). But I don't think we have anything to fear with regards to another large scale terrorist attack.

Why? Because this administration would benefit FAR more from being shown to having acted to *prevent* such an event rather than one actually happening.

This is how I'm seeing it. All this distraction - no substantive terror alerts of late but with occassional whispers of a looming potential attack, big "push button" political issues being exploited front and center (SS, "culture of life", the "All Schiavo All The Time" show, activist judges, etc.), continued cultivation of fear on the financial solvency of SS and perhaps the government itself... All designed to appeal and speak to the conservative and "nervous mommy" voting base. And also designed to stir up the opposition in a manner that allows us to be labelled as morally dubious, politically impotent, and "out of touch with the issues".

Then comes the sudden breaking news in a few weeks or months that law enforcement officials have busted apart an active plot for a major terrorist attack here in the US. The media will be all but offering up small children in sacrifice in order to get an exclusive (that everyone else has picked up through AP sources *sigh!*) to report the evidence at hand - laptops with detailed plans, attack was very imminent and large scale (thousands could have died!), the conspirators have all been rounded up to Guantanamo (oops! They committed some kind of ritualistic suicide while detained...)...

(Please read the following with extreme sarcasm...) Well, Bush Co. stopped it from happening! Obviously, he was right all along... At least this will be the spin. He's a hero!! He saved America. And according to the sensationalistic logical implication of political pundits, if he's right on terrorism, he must not be wrong on the Iraq occupation, on SS, on budget issues, etc. What a joke that recent abysmal 43% approval rating was! Talk about gaining "political capital"... Here, that ounce of prevention will pay off with pounds of affirmation. (end sarcasm)

I may well be wrong here, but that's how I can see the next few months unfolding....

97. Won't get fooled again?
I guess that's my hope. Foolish I know it is. But if there is another attack and if they have their grubby mits on it in anyway, people like me (former led down the dirty pike to support war and realized I was HAD and lied to about everything) middle aged middle class types are not going to buy it.

Like unless they shut the internet down I know half of the world will be on the case and looking at suspect number 1 as BFEE and all their cronies.

They also have all the power and all the propaganda..so I'm not sure they need a terrorist attack to do their dirty deeds. Also-Iraq really hasn't turned out they way the numbskulls were so certain it would. Maybe they are not so gung ho to start another war they can't get out of.

But I've thought the same thing as I'm sure we all had. I was holding my breath all of October and Bin Laden still showed up and they still did whatever rotten stuff that we may never even known about to cook the books.

I would never put anything past these people.

Vigilance is certainly warranted.

99. think about what we already know
it's amazing how quickly statements slip from our memory. Last year, around this time, I attended the National Media Conference and had the crap scared out of me by Bill Moyers and Studs Terkel. The media consolidation issue has exploded since then...we really weren't thinking/talking about it much this time last year. (yeah, I've been here, I just don't post much). Now, it's common knowledge and everyone is talking about media, media, media. What was Richard Clarke talking about most in his book-- what was his big warning-- another terrorist attack on a building? no. biological warfare? not really, that was Tommy Thompsons idea & he's a putz. Clarke was and is frantic about the stability of information and cyberspace. One day we're going to wake up and the internet will be one long dial tone. Your bank will say, sorry. Commerce will stop. Hospitals won't be getting those tests back from India at gigabyte speed. Anyone working on the back door for that? I think I want to buy a cow and a garden.

111. My 67 year old father just made a point along this line.
He was watching PBS last night and said it looked like Bush was taking a beating. Polls were down his SS wasn't going over and on a whole everything he touches is turning to *hit. He said it reminded him of what he was seeing in the news back in 2001 before the terrorist attack.

He's not a tinfoil hat person, not by a long shot. He's just started to consider LIHOP recently when he found out about all the ignored warnings.

He said it won't surprise him at this point if we have a huge terror scare. I asked if he meant by real terrorist or created ones. He said the real ones, the ones in the White House.

He's 67 years old and voted republican all his life until 2004. The fact that he's concerned scares the HELL out of me.

No, you're not alone.

113. BB, could you or someone please explain the OP part of the acronyms...
...LIHOP and MIHOP? I figured out that the "LIH" part means "let it happen" in reference to 9/11, and the "MIH" part of the other word means "make it happen," but what does OP stand for?

BB and Pachamama, the two of you are scaring the hell out of me! I so much want to believe you're wrong about another "terrorist attack" in the near future, but as you say all the signs are there, and Bush's approval rating is down to 43%.

What really freaks me out is that one of the first threads I read on DU when I began lurking here after the election was one concerning the eerie premonitions some people had been having for years regarding the spring of 2005. It was quite a long thread, with many people describing nightmares and scary visions and premonitions. It really gave me the chills to read it, although I can't remember having nightmares, etc. myself.

I suppose I could try doing a Tarot reading, but quite frankly I'm afraid of what I might see, especially in my present mood.

I so much want you to be wrong, but I am SOOOO afraid you're right!

If a 9/11 type event happened again, I don't think you would see the same kind of unity that occured in the aftermath of 9/11.

For one, DU and others would get on the administration's case immediately.

Second, if it involves an overseas event, Bush's credibility is already gone.

124. You're scaring me...
The Rethugs over at a board I argue with also mock me on the draft (I simply respond, "So you're ready for the draft?") by saying it won't happen and they hope I apologise when it "doesn't happen."

I don't think it's a plane this time around. What systems here do you think is the most vulnerable?

I say the Subways (even though MBTA says they'll search bags on the commuter rails, people still are able to take big bags onto the other lines). I've taken sharp objects with me on the train on my way to Providence. Are nuclear plants unprotected as well? I think it's still fairly easy to fly a private plane around (doesn't John Travolta still have his own plane to fly about in?).

Right now they're talking about withdrawing troops on CNN. I remember before 9/11 people were talking about how Jeffords switched (May 2001) and especially the Election report that was due to be revealed on September 11, 2001.

But then again, would Bush be insane to let a terrorist attack happen on this soil? He's been hawking that there were no terra attacks after 9/11 and under Kerry, there'd be a terra attack.

I'm scared now.

125. Hang in there, my gut is there but ...
I feel that way too, so hang in there. That said, let me provide a bit of calm here if I can. I have asked people in the "know" who are good sources because they are speaking from within the system and are generally honest with me and have been so in the past on various stories and such. They seem to think that this is not likely, if for no other reason than resources and support.

One thing someone said to me has made an impact is this: They have already distracted, dissuaded you, etc., by simply making you a). afraid of asking the questions and b). afraid of knowing the answers. In other words, they need not do anything as the fear of "something" is enough. Fear is a powerful tool. So while I share the gut feeling with you, I know as long as they keep using scare tactics, we are okay. I will worry when everything is silent on that front. Focus on what you need to do, despite the fear, because it is the tool and it is very effective.

Hope this helps some:)

Even Republicans were cringing as he made a fool out of himself time after time.
