Is There Any Issue That The Democratic Party Will Fight For Anymore?
Just wondering.

What issue will it be that the collective Democratic Party might decide is worth fighting for?

Which issue will it be that our Democratic Party's elected leaders will risk losing an election over?

Is there an issue?

Can anyone name one?

and they are winning that battle. The reason they are willing to hold firm on SS is because they've gotten huge numbers of calls from constituents making their views plain on the issue. The politicians respond to demands of their constituents when forced to do so.

Edit: they aren't risking losing an election over it. That's what the Republicans fear if they support Bush's proposal. Is your view that a party has to oppose the majority of the public if the cause is to be considered worth fighting for?

3. Social Security, but
that issue probably won't even make it to the floor. Too many people are against it. The Dems have given away every issue in hopes of being able to stand together for the Social Security issue and filibuster. That's it. SS. THAT is what the Dems will fight for.

10. Not to mention that..
FDR literally 'forced' himself to stand for us (despite the pain) and not merely stand but stand tall! What a man! My Hero!

11. He was one GREAT man! Wasn't he?
His heart was in the right place.

The Bush family has HATED FDR's SS ever since he started it. They have been trying to find a way to get rid of it forever. Bush's Grandfather, Prescott, HATED FDR. HATED him.

12. Indeed FDR Was (and Remains) Great!..I Believe the Bushies Are..
Jealous of true greatness..They fail to 'measure up' so they strive to 'tear down'..(case in point: FDR's social security net to help Americans, Bushies prefer the American people to be caught in a net of 'red' tape)..

4. What was it with the Democrats in the Senate re: Schiavo? What are they
afraid of? Some of the House members really distinguished themselves in my book with their courage and lucidity on this subject.

8. So far, 3: Social Security, Medicaid, and "Clear Skies" initiative
Every single Dem voted to stop Medicaid from being cut from the budget.

They also kept down the "Clear Skies" initiative; and I think they're doing a pretty good job so far on Social Security.

There are other votes where most of them stood together with just a few defecting.

And then there have been issues when many or most didn't stand up. So I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement.

But if I had to pick one issue that they have, as a group, decided is worth fighting for, so far I'd say it's been Social Security.

16.  ..."will risk losing an election over?"
Once elected, officials tend to work toward staying elected...which doesn't translate into "the will of the people"...they aren't the same thing at all.
