OLYMPIA — President Bush hasn't been able to talk state Sen. Dino Rossi into running for governor. But he has persuaded Rossi to get a dog.
For the past six months, Rossi's children have been pestering him to get them a dog. Instead of just saying no, Rossi eventually tried to brush them aside with this: "The only way I'll get you a dog is if the president tells me I should."
In July, while on a trip to Washington, D.C., Rossi arranged a West Wing tour for his family. When they came to the open doors of the Oval Office, Juliauna, the oldest of Rossi's four children, peered over the ropes to see if there was a way inside. She had a letter she wanted to put on the president's desk.
... Earlier this week, Juliauna got a handwritten note from President Bush.
"Dear Juliauna," the president wrote. "I agree that dogs are good friends. I love Spot and Barney. So, please tell your dad, I think you should have a dog."
