ABC admits receipt of "talking points" re Schiavo
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Schiavo/story?id=595905&page=2

-snip-
ABC News obtained talking points circulated among Senate Republicans explaining why they should vote to intervene in the Schiavo case. Among them, that it is an important moral issue and the "pro-life base will be excited," and that it is a "great political issue — this is a tough issue for Democrats."

When asked about these talking points on "Good Morning America," DeLay said, "I don't know where those talking points come from, and I think they're disgusting."

In this case, the Republican's political wrangling in the Schiavo case does not seem to reflect the majority of American's opinions.
-snip-

I think it is HUGE that ABC is reporting on the "process." Could it be related to the "media & secrecy" conferences that were on C-Span last week?

I also think the remark that the base will be "excited" and that the story is a "great political issue" shows the repub's real agenda here.

1. Couldn't agree with you more
This highlights how thoroughly disgusting the Republicans in congress are. They are monsters walking amongst us, and this should be publicized to the hilt. And everyone of them should be asked about on the nightly news and have America see them stumbling, lying to deny it.

5. I agree, this is the story...
..and it should be blasted everywhere.

But who is going to report on the corrupt media?

Michael Schiavo and his attorney should be on every talk show--waving these talking points.

It's just utterly revolting. Sickening beyond belief.

2. Of course!
Notice how not ONE of these Repugs have offered to PAY for the expensive treatement necessary to keep one poor mindlessly vegetative body alive indefinitely.

9. I agree
Quite telling. Wouldn't they offer to help with the bills? If I was Schivao I would give Bill Frist all the bills and say "here you go" and make him pay for all of it.

4. I am outraged...
at those talking points.

I am absolutely livid and sick to my stomach.

These evil, putrid pieces of trash could care less about "life" or Terri Schiavo.

This is all about shoring up their base and putting the Dems in a political stranglehold.

These fucking pieces of shit.

The talking points are sickening. So is the current media climate. Our media is so compliant, that they are now the recipients of the Republican playbooks--and they willingly spread their evil and lies.

Can you imagine, being in a helpless, vegetative state--and your vulnerable condition being used to cull votes?

This tops out my anger on political issues.

I can barely see straight.

10. I'm with you
I've been fuming about this for weeks. And to top it off, WE ARE IN THE MAJORITY on this issue. But our "leaders" are so spooked by this phony "we lost the election because of 'moral' issues" garbage, that they won't even stand up and be courageous and fight these monsters!

Un fucking believable.

11. I'm not surprised really
They do the same thing with faux news. Someone from the White House sends memo's about what they should talk about that day and they all talk the same thing. If you haven't see the movie "OutFoxed" at http://www.informationclearinghouse.info

6. I was watching this morning when Delay said that. The news lady
responded "the Republicans" when Delay claimed to not know where the talking points came from. Delay pointedly ignored that, and she didn't press it further.

story something that didn't look favorably on the repukes.
Maybe, if the Dems played this right, the media could turn on the repukes FINALLY!

8. And what DeLay said is quite humerous
I think it's funny he "doesn't know" where it came from. I'm sure he knows. For all we know he could've helped with the talking points to save his butt from all the other stuff. Clearly this was a distraction because of what was happening with him and for some reason the republicans want to keep him around.

12. It's definetaly a distraction
It's a big media show to take attention away from SS and bankruptcy and Delay's legal problems.

The Republicans should be ashamed, but they lost that capacity about twenty years ago.

Should Terri Schiavo be placed back on a feeding tube?

Yes 42%
No 58%

There is also a place to leave comments. Let's let MSNBC know how we feel about the issue, and about the repugs politicizing it.

That's why the tube should remain removed (his wish) and why the Republicans should keep out of it! :hi:

20. Finally
...a salient point about this tragic case.

I am so sick of this woman's tragic undoing being used as a political football. Let the family fight it out. The RW are shit for using this woman in such a way, as is anyone who politicizes her plight - and that goes double for her parents. Randall Terry a family spokesman? Who's their publicist, Eric Rudolph? James Kopp?

Fuck all these people. I'm sick of her being used in this way. Let her live in a vegetative state and hold out hope, or let her die with dignity. Just please keep politicians and self-centered assholes of every kind OUT of the whole affair.

If the Repugs really wrote the memo, good it got out,
If they didn't, at least ABC does appear to be reporting about the process.

22. FINALLY! It's been so TRANSPARENT if anyone just listened -
They all use the same phrases for all issues. Anyone paying attention would have noticed it years ago. With bush campaign and Iraq war buildup.

This is probably a Rove methodology.

It sounded as if ABC admits they used the Republican talking points, rather than reporting them as being used by Republican lawmakers. Glad to see it is the latter.

27. Wow. I agree - it's a good sign that ABC reported this at all.
I wonder what will happen now? I surely hope this story doesn't get suppressed as so many others have.

We also need to counterattack with the information supporting the total hypocrisy of Bush's pretending to give a damn about Terry Schiavo's situation, given his previous vote on similar situations in Texas.

The facts proving the incredible hypocrisy of Bush and the other Repubs on this issue were reported and discussed in OP and replies to this thread on the Atrios report:

30. The GOP just HAD to get the spotlight off themselves
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 09:22 PM by oxbow
The GOP is building this story up to a fever pitch precisely to draw attention away from Wolfowitz and Bolton's nominations, Delay's ethics investigations, the move to begin drilling in Alaska, the President's failing social security agenda and other bad news for them. It is so disheartening to see NPR blindly following the other media networks to make this non-story the day's headline. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call to atleast some in the media that they have been taken for a ride yet again by the PR weasels. Fox news has this shit on 24/7!

Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 09:43 PM by rocknation
...on "Good Morning America," DeLay said, "I don't know where those talking points come from, and I think they're disgusting."

First Jeff Gannon gets a White House press pass with an alias, an unqualified employer, a tax lien and an illegal past. Now some mysterious someone has managed sneak into the Senate and distribute these talking points! Or maybe they were given to someone who distributed them, but in a way, that's even worse, because that means the guilty party is still among them. No wonder the war on terrorism isn't going that well.
