7. America is only at fault for not bothering to create a coherent system for
transportation.

Still, nobody's perfect.

8. Hehe - I was teasin' ya
Lighten up man! We have hundreds of thousands of large vehicles on the road here - mileage is aboninable - many of the people who own them are poorer than I am. I'm not complaining - I bought a car that gets good milage because I knew the prices would go up. I've seen many europeans complain bitterly than even our 4-cylinder cars get terrible milage by thier standards - so don't act like there isn't a difference in perception because of gasoline prices. You guys are lucky in a way.

11. And some of us can't afford to buy newer cars, too.
No public transportation to speak of in my city, either. There are buses, if I wanted to get up at midnight to be ensured of getting to work by 8 a.m.

3. I am so SICK of hearing about the price of gas in europe.
Do you know what they get for the gas taxes they pay?
Actual government services, healthcare for everyone, real investment in infrastructure.

We pay less and our oil companies STILL make a record profit, and we get much less, our government finds other ways to take what they want while doing their best to not provide what services the europeans take as mandatory.

6. not to mention
Minimum wage rates north of $10 per hour, shorter average distances to travel, road beds that are overbuilt - much less likely to deteriorate, much better options for public transportation and a much higher tax rate per gallon... In the big scheme, we pay more per gallon
