1. He's awesome!
No punches pulled at all. Maybe this is the one issue that will backfire on the repubs.

Called Congress's actions 'odious, shocking & disgusting'.

2. He is on fire
To cut a deal at the espense of Terry's choice is reprehensible, he is saying this about Dems. Who is Senator Wyden? Sounds like a champion

6. God bless him. I saw him standing there all by himself at the
conference and he looked so vulnerable. But he said truth to injustice anyway. I agree with him in every way.

11. you probably already do...
deep own inside. It's all about those 'compassionate' Repubs and their quest for the 'right to life' for everyone except innocent Iraqis.

14. Because fundie whackos are on a mission to give the STATE
control over our bodies, whether it be abortion or pulling the plug on someone in our custody.

This is a violation of civil liberties, right to privacy. The State has NO RIGHT TO INTERFERE. Her husband has not lost his guardianship, he has NOT been proven to be abusive or neglectful.

5. Grandstanding...
I understand why he's angry. I would be too if it were my job to be involved with this mess.

But I don't think it's Congress's job to be involved in it either way, and the people I'm angry at are the ones who are USING this poor woman and her family (both sides) to make some smarmy "pro-life" political point.

10. he loves his wife SO much...
that he's been shacked up with this other babe and has kids with her, but forgot to get a divorce first, so Teri's parents could have custody and care for her.

12. He says he has not divorced her
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 05:07 PM by adigal
because he still cares what happens to her and he knew she wouldn't want to have lived like this. It seems logical to me: wouldn't it be easier to walk away and live a new life and let her parents deal with her and her medical bills and her need for care 24 hours a day?? If I didn't love my husband, I would just walk. If I did love him, I would still want his wishes honored and I would fight for him.

19. Reason why he didnt divorce terri
Terri was a strict roman catholic. Divorce is against catholic tradition. He knows she wouldn't have wanted that

25. I'd want my spouse to do the very same thing.
Carry out the obligation to me AND have love and support in his life too.

Marriage isn't for babies. I'm not so selfish that I'd want someone to martyr themselves for me - especially not someone I love.

13. I don't think the fact
that he went on with his life is necessarily a bad thing.

It's possible that the reason he didn't get a divorce is so that he could honor his wife's wish not to be kept alive artificially.

It's also possible that in his gut he knows that his wife would want him to do what he's doing.

I don't know, of course, but my friend's daughter died when she was only 21. She had cancer and so she knew that her death was imminent and she told her mother that she wanted her husband to remarry after she died. She said he was too young to stay single forever.

16. I don't think that he went on with his life makes him scum either
But there are other things that creep me out about him starting with the fact that his wife was severely bulimic and he never once did an intervention. There were suspicions about spousal abuse as well. Oftentimes, that is difficult to prove in court.

He also sought to pull the plug immediately after he got that 1 M dollar settlement, rather than using it to seek alternative treatments for her. (He sought only one).

Maybe he doesn't want her to regain any conciousness. Maybe he is afraid of what she might reveal about him. The guy gives me the creeps but the fact remains: THE STATE HAS NO RIGHT TO INTERFERE WITH CONTROLLING OUR BODIES OR THE BODIES OR THOSE IN OUR CUSTODY. IF they suspect abuse/neglect, they must go through the process of terminating rights to custody, FIRST.

This is very scary to think the State would have this much control. IF they make inroads with this case, be prepared that they will intrude on YOUR BODY or the body of your loved one you have custody over. So much for parental or spousal rights.

15. I agree with you on this one
I got hasselled by a lot of the male DUers for the exact same sentiments. I think that Michael Schiavo has the right to move on with his life but he should have DIVORCED TERRY FIRST. He's too sneaky. It's a sad deal for all involved. I think that Terry's parents are being exploited by the Repubs. They don't give a crap about that family - they are just looking for some press.

17. The Reasons
(a) Terri Schiavo told her husband and other witnesses that she didn't want to be kept alive in the circumstances she is currently under.

(b) Terri Schiavo's parents have admitted that they don't care what her wishes are, they want to keep her alive at all costs.

(c) Michael Schiavo is Terri's next of kin and can ensure that her wishes are carried out.

(d) If Michael Shiavo divorces Terri, her parents would take control.

(e) Michael Schiavo is aware of (b).

(f) As a loving husband, Michael Schiavo has dedicated himself to ensuring that his wife's final wish is carried out, despite MASSIVE PERSONAL HARDSHIP TO HIMSELF.

22. Put a God damn pen in Terri's hand to sign Divorce Papers....
Fact is that Michael has to fight for the right to follow the wishes of his wife for the last 15yrs, Court after court has agreed with him on this matter. Terri died 15yrs ago, so what he has a new family, begrudge him some happiness in this mess? Or should he dress in sackcloth and ashes?

Her parents have no say in the matter from the moment she said "I DO" so put a pen and Divorce Papers in front of Terri. If she signs then the parents can have say.
