Okay, Republicans. So what's it going to be??? You cry for less government
in our lives, and yet Republicans are wanting to legislate in our hospital rooms, our bedrooms, and our wombs. And yet they don't want any legislating of their backroom dealings, Halliburton, paid press, obvious lies for which there are no real answers...I'd go on but the post would be too long.

A call into the Nancy Skinner show got me thinking on this. How can anyone who votes Republican while screaming "Less Government!" get behind a government that finds itself more and more interested in legislating how we live, who we live with and for how long?

1. Cognitive dissonance, and the "being on the winning side" effect.
Some people just want to be one of the ones who can say "MY guy won, YOUR guy sucks."

3. The Republican Dichotomy!
I've been railing about this for years.....

To a Repub, less government means no taxes and no regulation of industry........

but

it also means, that every agency and the full power of government MUST be used to enforce their version of the social code.......

even funnier?

Republicans praise their "cowboy" heroes Reagan and Bush as "rugged individualists" but Republican social dogma requires strict conformity to a very, very narrow set of values and morals...

Republicanism is based on lies and distortion.

4. It's all about control...
Republicans love control over OTHERS. In business, they want to be free to commit whatever corporate capers they want without regulation. But employees must toe the line and grovel before the boss. That same control is extended to the home of the worker.

6. If the Republicans were serious...
Additionally, if the Republicans were serious about their "traditional family values", why don't they work on making changes so that two income families are not a necessity for the middle class?

8. Because they never have, and never will be interested in the middle
class. They're just good at getting them to go along with them.

7. Here is my purely anecdotal evidence about Republicans
They want less government, and don't want to pay taxes.

I have lived and worked in very liberal areas, and very conservative areas.

Republicans, who never want to pay taxes and think that their tiny amounts of taxes they do pay in red states is high, and who seem to think that public services should be provided for free, are the most demanding on those very public services they don't want to support.

They want the libraries open longer. They never want to wait 10 seconds to check out a book, or for anything.

10. And that's only the tip of the iceberg. They want to be seen first in the
E.R. at County hospital for a hangnail as well. Sigh.
