Looking for info on US trade imbalance

I am in a group dynamics class in school right now, in a group of three people and I got the topic of effects on a populace due to a trade imbalance.

Here is how our group structured the whole research topic:

US Trade Imbalance
^>causes ^>effects
^>consumers ^>outsourcing



etc, etc.

I looked on google and didn't really find any in depth discussions on it.
