they received too many donations for tsunami releif which they indicated on their website. I have received a note from them requesting that they use my $100 donation for other purposes - like Darfar Sudan and if not, I can request a full refund. I replied to them that I would not dream of asking for a refund and they can use my donation for whatever purpose it is needed; further, I will be making more donations in the future.
They are a great bunch. When I saw that they had actually told people they had received enough money for their work for tsunami relief and suggested people give to the Red Cross or something, my respect for them rose greatly.
I fear I am a coward because I cannot even bear to read articles about places like Darfar - so I do the next best thing - I help to financially support those brave people who try to make a difference
I've got a good friend who has volunteered for them many times. They do wonderful work and survive on donations. Thank you Skittles for giving attention to this organization. :)
it was before they won the Nobel and they were not well known. When the Rwandan massacres were occuring and the media was not covering it AT ALL, I kept getting mailings from MSF (Doctors without Borders) shouting alarms about it and begging to please let people know. They are my heros.
I gave them permission to re-direct my donation to the Congo.
Also -- they didn't accept money from the governments that had joined Bush's coalition -- which put them at a disadvantage when it came to collecting donations for Iraq relief.
