1. Not really
but I'm sure it will be more than one, and he'll be in full leg/hand irons.

11. In an article quoted on DU last night, (which I can't find) it is standard
practice to not place defendants in handcuffs or leg irons when they enter the Court while on trial because it might negatively influence the jury thereby denying the defendant a fair trial.

The article also noted that the Court had requested extra security for Nichols but that it was not evident at that time what measures had been taken.

Nichols had only the one deputy with him in the corriders of the courthouse.

13. Extra security? Yeah, they put him in the hands of...
....an overweight, over-aged, female deputy. And then she got on an elevator with him.........ALONE!

Dumbass.

18. While I would never disagree that a defendent
has the right to a fair trial, it's certainly possible to just remove handcuffs immediately before entering a courtroom, before a jury is seated.

19. Because it's unconstitutional.
The jury isn't supposed to see him in shackles, or handcuffs.

5. Do you really believe he will live to see the inside of another courtroom?
That dude has "shot while attempting to avoid capture" written all over him.

10. Judge and clerk dead - the cheap-ass blue state mindset in action
Edited on Sat Mar-12-05 12:23 PM by johnfunk
Here's the fact: the progeny of slavers who control the state of Georgia couldn't give a rat's ass about security in court buildings. Why, it might raise taxes - weven if it could have stopped three murders and the easy escape of suspect Nichols.

It's so typical of the 21st-century Confederate mindset that feels cheaping down public education keeps the labor force stupid and compliant.

Frankly, there are more thana few people out there who feel it's long past time for the rest of the US to forcibly eject Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. And after what's transpired in Atlanta in the last two days, can you blame them?

17. I'll bet he appears on a SLAB before he appears in Court.
You really think The Georgia Patrol is planning on taking him ALIVE???

How many Tasers, fired at the same time, would be sufficient to cause Death?

We may find out....

20. You must have missed the news-he has been captured alive.
Edited on Sat Mar-12-05 01:11 PM by lizzy
Frankly, I never bought the idea he was the "dead man walking" before his capture. Everybody was saying Washington sniper suspects won't be captured alive either-yet they are very much alive and well to this day. There is no reason to believe anything would happen to Nicols either.

23. He ain't on Death Row yet.
Anything can happen. "Shot while trying to escape" comes to mind. Little ruckus in the Day Room at jail....

Yes, I posted my assertion about his future before I heard the news.
No Cable here, remember?

I'm starting to think you may be onto something. I just saw CNN show "live" coverage of him being driven to an undisclosed location.

24. Best case scenario...
He'll show up at arraingment looking like they drug him face-down on a railroad track to the courtroom.

"Oh, that? He didn't want to do what he was told"...

Wort-case scenario:
Shot during escape attempt.
