What will DU be like when the Dems take back over?
Can we still be a positive, viable, and constructive force? Or are we too reactionary?
Will we be reduced to responding to freeper whines?
Will we become a propaganda machine, defending Dems at almost any cost?
Can we have a voice in a Dem administration? Can we actually help shape/refine policy?
Will we gravitate toward legal advocacy/support- helping to defend those who are attacked by the minoity right wing?

It is probably relatively easy to sit in the "cheap seats" and hurl our political molotov cocktails, but once our people are in power, it will almost certainly be different around here- not worse, just different.

It hasn't even happened yet, and I am getting verklempt.

2. we still have a lot of work to do my friend
the presidency is only the start, and a meager one at that. We need to take back at least the Senate, and make some serious gains in the House as well. And, with all the different posters from across the center-left spectrum here, I'm sure that there will be more than enough bashing/praise (depending how far left you are) of whoever is elected to keep discussion going.

3. We'll go back to hating the media, like when Clinton was president
and there will still be plenty of Republican senators, congresspeople, governors etc to talk about.

I also suspect there will be more discussions on specific policy issues on which democrats disagree, like the death penalty, immigration, etc.

But traffic will probably decrease alot.

Oh, and I'm sure there will be some angry people who will criticize the president whomever it is.

5. we were still in quite a mess in the 90's
Getting rid of Bush is one step in a huge process. We still have too much money influencing politics, for one thing. The unelected people and powers in charge right now, will still have that power without Bush, and we need to stop THEM, too.

I'll support the Dem candidate throughout the election, but then I'm turning my critical eye back on, and woe is he whom I gaze upon!!

12. That's a great thought.
Depending on how strong a victory the Dems get (positive thinking here), working on getting the corporate/money influence out of politics may be the Next Big Issue. And it is something we can help with, I would think. Especially if Dean or Kucinich get elected- populist, small contributions, semi-outsiders.

We are certainly a populist organization here- member driven, everybody equal (with the possible exception of Will Pitt-just kidding!). Getting the power back into the hands of the people is a perfect "agenda" .

6. I hope so
Sometimes Democrat language begins to sound hysterical like the Republicans sounded via Rush and his allies. I'd like to see this stop.

If we do bring some thought and sanity back to the White House (fingers crossed here), I will try to be a good sport to the Republicans and Conservatives, and attempt to lead by example by not shouting them down as happened here if you look at the early hate mail.

7. being a "good sport"
to the repukes will only enable them to do again what they did to Bill Clinton. If we have not learned the lesson that THEY are the enemy and cannot be treated with anything other than complete distrust and elimination, they will take over again.

How often do Dems have to make the same damn mistake? How often do you have to be bitten by a rabid dog before you learn to put it down?

I do agree that shouting them down is not the answer. Shutting them up is better. Eliminate them and prevent them from doing any more damage.

9. Once we do get a Dem in the office
the real work begins. It will give us a bigger voice, I hope, to start correcting the immense problems we have. We must work hard to somehow separate corporations from politics. They also must become responsible to our country and play fair globally. That is just one problem. We have years of work ahead of us. It will be nice to work these things out instead of reacting to the daily bashing by Bush's* admin. It would be nice if they would just take one day off from coming out with something else horrible.

10. Pretty much like we were in the '90s without DU
We still bickered and bitched within the ranks and complained about Dinos and the media. I don't imagine that will change much.

The only thing that seemed to unite us much was the impeachment. We all lined up like siblings, defending an attack on one of our kind, and then went back to in-fighting the minute the attack subsided.

We're dems, that's how dems are. An unexamined party is not worth fighting for - to corrupt an old phrase.

Substitute Gore, Kerry, or even Graham for Howard.

17. I would hope party-building and progressive political struggle.
Same things, new focuses. Unless we somehow defeat the GOP in both houses and the presidency, there's a lot of serious work on the federal level regardless. There are campaigns for important legislation like raising the minimum wage and so forth. Hopefully the Democratic administration won't give us TOO much to worry about.
