While authoring Black Box Voting, the groundbreaking book about the secret voting industry, Harris interviewed hundreds of witnesses, including election officials and even voting machine programmers who work directly for the firms that build these machines. Harris instigated the first multi-state consumer litigation against unauditable and untrustworthy voting systems. This 53-year old grandmother challenged secretaries of state with court injunctions, and has been fighting the large multinational corporations that dominate voter registration and vote-counting, on consumer protection, false advertising, and false claims charges.

Her fee is $6500 + local expenses. (I called). To be fair, she does pay her own air fare, or rather, donors are paying her air fair, so let's not be fair.

6. Full disclosure

I spoke on BBV at Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro, NC.

They gave me $25 for gas and a bottle of water.

I spoke at the New England School of Law student ACLU symposium on voting rights and they paid my air fare ($321), but paid my own hotel and meals.

The state of North Carolina paid my gas expenses and a per diem while I was on the Joint Select Committee on Electronic Voting ($91.50 per meeting, six meetings).

I usually ask for groups to pay for airfare and hotel room, or for airfare and a couch. If it is a group that can give more, I will take it, but that happens about once a year.

Bev Harris did more to bring Black Box Voting fraud to the public's attention than ANYONE else did and if people want to pay her $6500 a pop to hear her speak, then so be it.

I wouldn't take money to speak under ANY circumstances. Just as I don't file qui tam law suits.

I just think this has not been the right approach at all, especially with the find of the election tapes in FL. Now that crusade has been left to local activists, who are easily outgunned in the courts,
justice delayed is justice denied. It sounds like there was a massive grassroots financial backing for many after 11/2/04, and there were results but not on the level of the money that people donated. And the saddest thing is that I think that a number of individuals used this tragedy as a cash cow to further drain the dems whether this was Rovian or not I don't know. For all the local activists, those who work tirelessly for little money, you have our heartfelt thanks but many of us sacrificed to donate to various groups who were going to find the TRUTH and I think much of the money I sent was wasted, including the money that I sent to the Ohio Dems to support the recount that they told me was going to go towards a media campaign for college campuses to convince people of election fraud.
