CDA Rolls Out 2005 Convention

March 8, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The College Democrats of America (CDA) announced today that it will hold its annual convention July 21-23 in Washington, D.C.

Campus activists from across the country will converge to plan for the year ahead, participate in top-notch campaign training, and interact with leaders of the Democratic Party.

"Every year, College Democrats gather to reflect on our past, share ideas, and organize for the future," CDA National President Grant Woodard said. "This year, CDA delegates will go home better trained, and better prepared to tackle the challenges of campus organizing than ever before."

The July convention, where delegates will also hold elections for CDA's seven-member national Executive Board, will be held at the Washington Court Hotel. CDA will also sponsor a leadership retreat for state and national leaders directly following the convention.

Last summer, CDA hosted its largest annual convention ever in Boston during the Democratic National Convention. More than 1,100 campus activists converged for training and to prepare for voter mobilization efforts in the fall.

In 2004, College Democrats across the country registered voters, recruited armies of volunteers, knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors, helped with GOTV efforts in battleground states and turned out young voters in overwhelming numbers for the Democratic Party. Senator John Kerry won the youth vote by nine percent, and would have won the election with 375 electoral votes had 18-19 year old voters decided the election.

The College Democrats of America is the official student outreach arm of the Democratic National Committee. In 2005, CDA boasts its largest membership ever, with activists on more than 1200 campuses in all 50 states.
