OK, whats the best country to move to?
I'm looking for a place with decent climate that is friendly toward intellectuals the religiously unaffiliated.

English speaking would be a plus.

1. Good luck.
Offhand I'd say there isn't one that will take an American who does not have a skill they are desperate for.

12. Belize?
have no idea how it's changed since I've been there 10 or so years ago. Tiny country, great people and adventures in geography.

But that's the place I like - except do not reside in Belize City.

For bestest tho, I'd go with something Scandanavian, they are so civilized.

2. Well, Norway isn't exactly warm, or English speaking... easy enough to
learn Norwegian, though. Rated #1 country to live in, very, very progressive. Can't say it's for everyone, though, or that I'm not biased. ;)

the long arm of the Bush Law hammering us even more so in the next short while.

Canada is NOT safe. we've just behind fashion, it'll catch up too soon.

19. You got that right.
I just read that Canada has huge oil reserves....in the Top Ten worldwide.

Don't look now, but there's Bush.....looking at you. His maniacal face is twisted with greed glowing in his eyes like a Jack O Lantern. He has white foam hanging out of the corners of his mouth, drooling about your precious Black Gold......which will soon be his, if he has his way....

that is the next or most precious resource. And we have plenty. I live in a province of 100,000 fresh water lakes and my politicians will sell me out whenever convenient. I'll be paying more for MY water than Americans. Probably so now.

13. Australia, Hands down
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 07:24 PM by A HERETIC I AM
English speaking, warm, hedonistic free thinking society that values hard work as well as hard play. Only problem is that immigration can be tough. You have to prove you have a skill in need that cant be filled by an Aussie (at least it USED to be that way) otherwise you need a company to sponsor you. Contact the Australian Consulate in San Francisco for visa details and other info.

If i won the lottery, I'd move to Queensland in a heartbeat.

24. For the moment, yes......but like this country, the pendulum swings
both ways. Aussies tend to be critical of their govt' but it is, after all, A Parlimentary, Democracy much like England and Canada

18. I'd say stay right here.
We will prevail eventually. It's just a matter of time and organization. The damage done will be heavy, though, and we'll need friendly intellectuals to help set things right.

Half the challenge of making history is simply showing up.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

27. Well, you sort of burst my bubble....
35,100 hits on Google for the exact quote...yes Gandi et al.
I didn't immediately see the connection....but kudos nevertheless....it caught me as very Christ like.

Things like this never diminish because of their inherent truth.

30. Gandhi had much in common with Jesus.
And personally, I place greater value on actions inspired by such a quote than on the quote itself.

Even famous people were inspired by something, I bet. If this quote inspires you to great action, that's wonderful.

Maybe you'll do something that inspires someone else.

:)

21. Canada is without a doubt the best place
I've been in and out for a total of about a few years.
But you have to be able to deal with the cold.

As a precursor, you might want to try in and about Boise Idaho.
