Two years later, here's what we lost

This administration has pissed away ALL OF THIS. Chileans, who have every right to hate us for the havoc our covert actions wrought on their country, were there to support us. Palestinian children supported us.

Now who do we count as our allies? Other liars, like Blair, and murderers like the leader of Azerbaijan.

The budget surplus wasn't the only thing Bush squandered.

1. It's still there if we want it.
Clinton still gets cheering crowds. I've got no doubt that the next president we get who is not of the mold of Le Pen, Berlusconi, or Zhirinovshy will regain most of the good will. Four years is nothing compared to the last sixty.

2. Nothing? Guess I should have put "KERRY IS EVIL!"
Or "DEAN HATES JEWS" in the title, maybe it would have gotten the attention it deserves.

Typical.

3. Good find
So much for Palestinians dancing in the streets. Now I wonder if they were CIA plants like the morons in Firdos Square.

The good will squandered is almost as depressing as the attack itself.

4. Yeah, and did you notice how CNN focused on that?
I barely remember Qadafi releasing a statement condeming the attacks, but I can't forget the "Palestinians" dancing in the streets. I remember being royally pissed about it at the time. Now I'm just pissed I was so easily manipulated.

5. Thank you SweetZombieJesus....
For the bittersweet reminder of how the world embraced us in our time of pain. How I wish we could have used all that energy to heal our nation. I hope one day we can reach a state of healing and acceptance. I'm tired of calls for vengenance and more killing.

7. A soccer stadium full of Iranians supported us.
The French, with "Nous sommes tous Américains" on their placards, supported us.

You're absolutely right, SZJ. The whole world grieved with us. And it was just a matter of days before the Bushists began alienating everyone all over again.

8. Yep, the "anti-American cowardly" French supported us
They supported us when they saved American citizens from Liberia months before Bush even knew where the hell it was.

Cowards my ass.

And of course, we repaid the Iranians by including them in the "Axis Of Evil". Nixon was Cesar Chavez compared to the asshole we've got for a President now.

11. Molly Ivins wrote a marvelous piece
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 10:55 PM by steviet_2003
on the French last spring, you probably saw it but here it is again: http://www.sacbee.com/content/opinion/national/ivins/story/6136732p-7092269c.html

Just imagine if we had a leader that could have utilized all that worldwide sympathy and support to actually unite the world to combat terrorism rather than the shit we got motivated by lust for power and money.

Thanks for posting and reminding, SZJ!!

on edit: I just reread the piece and my eyes welled up. I urge those of you that have never read it to do so and those that have, it is still powerful, IMHO.

15. The French and Rumsfeld "the man who knew the plan"
Various things that Secretary of Defence Rumsfeld said right on 9/11 correctly indicated two things to French people, at least after they reflected on the words for awhile: 1.The Bush Administration was going to lie and exploit 9/11 to put through their own self-interested agenda and 2.Rumsfeld, Bush and co. really were NOT surprised by the spectacular disaster, they knew just how they were gonna spin it to their own advantage.

Also, remember that French Intelligence had tried to warn the Bush Administration that something like this was in the works...then they noticed that the story about a 757 hitting the Pentagon didn't really add up...

All this stuff was leading to rather heated debates in France before long. By the fall of 2002, over 80% of all French people said that they didn't trust the Bush Regime.

16. That's why the British people and Germany feel the same way
They also warned us of the upcoming attack. Because those warnings were ignored, that made the people in those nations question it as well. That and there was a lot of outcry of hypocracy in Britain (this is something a Scottish friend of mine said on 9/11) because we were attacking Muslim terrorists but have done nothing over the years about organizations here that funded the IRA. Most nations don't trust Bush because of:

1.) Our actions.

2.) The fact that our government has so callously exploited a huge tragedy for political gain.

3.) They are willing to lie about the above two.

9. loss
The loss of respect and friendship of the people of
the world in the last two years burns me up inside.

I only hope that the usurper's vision of fear and hate
can be overcome and reversed in the coming years.

10. I hope that most of our former allies don't equate the jug-eared goon with
all of us.

I keep thinking about writing an open letter to the rest of the world, apologizing for Dubya's idiocy, and trying my best to explain how it came to be, but I'd be at a loss trying to explain why he's still allowed to commit crime after crime against America and the world with impunity.

I just hope the rest of the world understands we're all as sick of these monsters as they are.

14. National figureheads
"I hope that most of our former allies don't equate the jug-eared goon with all of us."

Trust me, they do.

It's no secret what percentage of Americans voted GOP in the last round, nor is it any secret what percentage buy the PNAC propaganda.

17. "Lafayette is still with you."
That hit the point home for me. Our government so willingly bashed on our oldest allies despite the fact that we would not exist as a nation if it were not for their aid in our time of need.
