Does the government own its citizens' bodies?
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 09:04 PM by gollygee
If someone needs my kidney to live, can the government force me against my will to give up my kidney?

If someone needs my bone marrow to live, can the government force me againist my will to give up bone marrow?

Is there any way anyone would find it acceptable for the goverment to force people to give up kidneys and bone marrow against their will?

Then why oh why does anyone think the government should be able to force me to give up use of my uterus against my will?

edited to fix typo.

3. Actually, a few years ago
there was a case where someone was ordered to donate bone marrow, I think. It was in enlightened Europe, although I forget which country. There have also been lawsuits in the USA, although to the best of my knowledge they have all failed.

4. Give the shamelessly
emboldened GOP time, I'm sure they'll be working on that very thing soon. Besides, if we don't stop this bankruptcy horror, we'll be selling our own organs to survive anyway! (I'm really only half-joking, here!)

5. Obviously they do, or you wouldnt be asking the question.
They own you because they control you, when it is supposed to be you that control them. Ownership is a fancy way of saying control.

7. Something like that.

Although he is more referring to the supremecy of property 'rights'. They have now twisted ideas to the point where a "free market economy" means a return to the time where the people who own the land and means of production control society and the government works as an agent of enforcement for them.

It's all very appealing, which is why so many people vote for Republicans.
