Question about grocery shopping...
We buy what groceries we can at Costco, a good blue company, but sometimes we need to buy just a little of something, or Costco doesn't carry what we need. Our other grocery stores here are Carr's, which is a Safeway subsidiary, and Fred Meyer, which is Kroger. Does anybody know which of these is bluer? Personally, I've always had a bit of a problem with Safeway, going back to the boycotts in the '70s, but from the Buy Blue sites, it looks like they might be at least a little pinker and not quite so bright red as Kroger. Does anybody know more about these two grocers?

Unfortunately almost all grocery stores are solid red.

2. Well, Blue -- I have to go with price
and Carr's definitely has better pricing on a week-in-week-out basis. I'm a costco member, but my foodstamps don't spend there; so, I only shop Costco for non-food items. What about New Sagaya? I've not been there, yet -- but it's a local concern.

4. I love New Sagaya...
...and shop there fairly often, but it's a little more pricey. They do have wonderful produce though, and it's great for finding the more exotic ingredients for the ethnic stuff we like to cook. I'm waiting for summer when I can plant my garden, and then I'll KNOW it's "blue" food. LOL.

8. There is also "midtown" -- or somesuch name . . .
out on Bragaw where it crosses over 5th in a small strip mall on the right hand side (where the Salvation Army store is). They also appear to be a small local concern.

9. Is that south Mountain View?
I think it used to be a Red Apple or something. That's clear on the other side of town from us, so probably not too convenient. I guess we'll just keep alternating between Freddie's and Carr's.

3. I shop at Raley's, a subsidiary of Albertson's, which is bright red.
However, it's a closed union shop, so I don't have that big a problem with it. I do most of my bulk buying at the food co op.

Not only do you have to ask what kind of weasel is getting your money, you also have to consider who they employ and how they treat them. Since this is a neighborhood market, I've gotten to know both management and employees, and they seem to think they're being treated quite well for retail.

Costco wasn't that good a deal for me because I live alone in a small house and don't have enough storage for two years' worth of products at a time.

10. Shop Costco with a friend
My friend and I always split large stuff like their 20# bag of potatoes and their flats of strawberries and tomatoes.
Our kids are grown and gone now, so some of the larger quantity things are not what we need now, but by splitting the large quantities we can still save money...and it's more fun to shop with a friend anyway :)

5. Fred Meyer
Those are pretty much my choices too. In my town, Fred Meyer employees seem to feel freer to advocate within the union than the Safeway employees. Fred Meyer has better food anyway.

6. We don't have any of those stores
I live a block from Publix so I always go there, convenience. Don't know if it's red or blue?
