Prediction; If Condi runs for POTUS, she'll do as well as Keyes did in IL.
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 06:56 PM by benburch
The base of the GOP are hardcore racists. Since they no longer wear sheets, it is harder to tell who they are, but a good clue in target acquisition is the W04 stickers on their rusted F150s.

This is the reason Keyes did so very badly here in Illinois; Your average Illinois GOPer would rather not vote at all in a race than vote for a black man. A black WOMAN? Doubly bad!

1. Keyes lost for several reasons, but not because he is black
Keyes lost because he is a carpetbagging shithead who is so extreme that he makes fanatical rightwing zealots uncomfortable.

If Condi is the nominee for the GOP, she will win.

Even though the GOPs base is bigoted racists, they will be able to appeal to moderates and well-meaning but uninformed centrists.

2. Oh, the racists would vote for Condi
after all she's THEIR house negro.

If the GOP runs her, then the Dems will run Hillary and we'll have a second Clinton in the White House.

Not that I am happy with Hillary at all, but if they are THAT stupid...

(I would prefer Chief Justice Hillary to Presdeint Hillary. She can do a lot more damage to the NeoCons from the Supreme Court than she can from the White House).

10. How does this happen
How does Hillary get appointed to the Supreme Court? OTOH.... At the rate she is heading right she may be running with McCain as a Pubie in '08! (I had this sudden pain watching them on <Meet the Depressed> a week ago.) She is a hawk and a former Goldwater girl to boot!

But Condi in '08....never happen, she ain't no good ole boy. The Dixiecrats would go nuts.

13. I am just commenting
that given a choice, I prefer Justice Hilary to President Hilary.

Hilary is to much a politician for my tastes, she will sell out her principles whatever way is needed to get elected. At least as a justice she's untouchable and could be an unaplogetic liberal.

I think you underestimate the cognitive disonance of the NeoCons. They will support Condi because she has proven 100% white and willing to sell every sell civil rights to the highest bidder.

The taste of Republican butt does not improve with age.

"The NeoCons can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They do not feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

14. I am just thinking neither nor...
I doubt we have to worry about Condi or Hillary but it is a long way to '08 and lots of things can happen. Underestimating the Neocons may be a fault I confess to. I really think they are a minority in the party and underestimate the backlash which would result from running a woman (black or white (think Elizabeth Dole)). Great tag line BTW.

....And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.... or how bout '... until you pry the ballot from their cold dead hands'.....

better them than you ...<g>

3. The reason Keyes did so badly in Illinois...
Is because he's a radical right winger. He doesn't even make a pretense of being a moderate or "compassionate conservative." He was very hateful himself in the campaign as well, especially towards homosexuals. Kerry won Illinois handily, as well.

8. Keyes did not even get the normal 30% even Hitler would get here as GOP.
The fundy base deserted the party on this one.

4. It's safer not to underestimate her
I understand your ideas that GOP guys are both racists and sexists, but it would be safer not to assume they will not vote for her, primarily because we can't let overconfidence lead to defeat.

If it is true that Republicans won't vote for a black female, then she will not win the primaries. If she manages to win the nomination, then I'd assume she can get Republican votes and would take her seriously. There's also the danger that she'll pick up some black and women votes from previous Democratic voters.

That said, I really doubt she'll be elected President.

5. To reiterate...
The NeoCons would vote for Satan as long as he drank the Kool-Aid.

Of course Faux Newz will claim the video is fake. Filmed by the "Liberal" C-SPAN.

12. You can bet the lesbian issue would be raised in the primary - whether or
not it's true. There is enough smoke there to sink her with the religious right. They don't mind bearing false witness if it suits their purposes.

15. The GOPirates won't let her be the candidate.
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 08:25 PM by Cleita
They may let her run so the African American community thinks they aren't racist, but she will be marginalized early in the campaign; not enough donations, things like that to derail her.

Their candidate will be another Bush type that appeals to the freepers like Jeb. On edit: They had our wonderful Governor, Ahnold on the local news last night saying he wouldn't say no to be a presidential candidate in 2008.

16. That Rapist POS doesn't even qualify to run for POTUS.
He was born in Austria to an ex-Nazi father. Any POTUS must by constitution be born HERE.

19. He thinks he can.
Somebody is telling him he can, like they told him he could be governor after Davis was recalled. Go figure, but underneath all this is a big pile of rotting corruption.
