4. The Ratings For The AA's...
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 04:12 PM by jayfish
were down 6% from last year. This is because Hollywood is out of touch with mainstream America. Of course 6% doesn't sound like mainstream anything.

EDIT: Post was meant as reply to DearAbby.

5. Viewership was down a whole 6%.
Which has nothing to do with the fact that most people saw, at best, one or two of the movies up for Best Picture.

13. The vast majority of people didn't see any of them.
You can statistically figure that out from ticket sales.

15. "It's set to end at 6 a.m.," my source informed me."
"Well, this morning I know why. I received a phone call from one of Yorn and Whitesell's guests at 4:30 a.m. PST. Just think -- the Academy Awards show ended at 8:40 p.m. But the Yorn/Whitesell party is still in full swing. "It's set to end at 6 a.m.," my source informed me."

"The place reeks of pot. It's like a free for all. There are people in the Jacuzzi, and it's just wild."

I wonder if the source was that crack reporter Jeff Gannon...I'm sure it got pretty wild when he jumped in the jacuzzi...

23. I'm hard pressed to think of anything more insignificant than the Oscars.
Or the Emmys. Or the Grammys. Or the Tonys. A fun night out, but of no consequence unless you're there.

24. Of course they were, but not because of the Blue-Red split.
It was because this year's movies really weren't as interesting. Last three years had Lord of the Rings movies--especially last year's sweep. Year before that, we had Crouching Tiger and Gladiator. This year we had MDB and Aviator. Neither of which were really that good. Aviator was little-seen and mediocre; MDB was little-seen and just a hair above mediocre.

from the D&D crowd who only watched last year for LOTR....

...besides, if Drudge were so powerful then his campaign to get rid of Chris Rock would have worked.

26. And there was a giant "WILL ROTK WIN IT ALL?" publicity-meme.
This year the only interesting thing was "Will Scorcese be snubbed again?" Both the 'contenders' sucked, and, when it came to actors, Foxx was a lock and the rest weren't particularly interesting.

31. The greatest movie we saw this year was
"Ray", closely followed by "Sideways". We still haven't seen "Million Dollar Baby" and "Aviator"; I can wait till they hit the DVD shelf. I am amazed at how many movies end up winning Oscars that are now gathering dust on DVD rental shelves across the country while other movies that won NOTHING ("Election," "Seabiscuit," "Love Actually") are watched over and over.

I was very surprised that Ray Charles evidently wanted his life portrayed honestly; I imagine most celebrities would prefer the "sanitized" version. His music lives on, that's for sure. Jamie Foxx did a wonderful job.

We couldn't stop laughing at "Sideways," and are still discussing it. I imagine it holds no relevance or fascination for anyone under 35, though (or anyone who's never had something in their lives go terribly, terribly "sideways".) Paul Giamatti was, again, robbed.

27. Color me shocked. No, SHOCKED!
Matt Drudge has nothing better to do.

In the meantime, people are using substances at a party? NOOOOOOOOO! I read the breathless and appalled account by FAUX' gossip maven. It seems that there were no A-list names at that party, but let's not let that stop the RNC-mandated Smearing of All Oscar Attendees(tm).

I'll bet there's never been a substance, illicit or not, used at a Republican party. Ohh, noooo. They also don't cheat on their wives with their aides or hire hookers.

but i went to bed by 10:30. after two hours, and very few chuckles, i felt it wasn't worth it.

in MY opinion it was the most boring oscars in recent memory.

yeah, yeah, yeah, opinions are like rectal orifices......

i do try to make myself stay up for the big ones, but it never got off the ground last night.

edit it too ask, why did "today's headlines" on my google/iwon homepage on the internet say abc earned gold with the oscar telecast, wowing and zowing about chris rock, gushing over the increased viewership?

it seems now that has all been re-written.
