Chris Matthews
What has happened to the media. It is ridiculous that peolpe like Matt Drudge can get deals with AOL and other media groups.

Why does Chris Matthews still have a show on MSNBC? He only has Republican shills on his show. In addition, what is the ratings of the conservative shows on MSNBC? I ask this question in that I do not understand how they could have shows on the channel when all they have is Republican shills on their shows. Matthews and Scarbrough have Republicans on their shows who have no credability at all. I just wonder how they get to keep their shows.

Why does Sean Hannity still have a show. I learned earlier today that he was linked to discredited quotes supposedly made by Hillary Clinton. He promoted a deck of cards that proported to have racey quotes from Clinton. Later, it was found that Clinton never made those comments. It seems that he should lose his show for doing something like this.

3. Chris Matthews, Scarborough, Hannity, J. Woof-Woof, Leslie the iron man
all the rest get to keep their shows BECAUSE they are a propaganda voice for the BUSH empire. DISSENT, truth reporting, and integrity would get their shows cancelled... the time came in EUROPE and in CUBA and places where people couldn't tolerate dictatorships anymore when people had to choose between standing up for the right thing and getting fired, jailed and even executed... and I fear that such a time may be closer at hand here in these FREEDOM OF SPEECH DEMOCRATIC UNITED STATES--NOT ANYMORE, than we are conscious or aware of.

11. I found an interesting Faux News video on that site, seito!
Linda Vestor of Faux News has a blog & she was crowing about besting Omarosa (from first season of "The Apprentice") on a talk show she hosts.

http://homepage.mac.com/mkoldys/iblog/C168863457/E1175688519/

After watching the video, I sent this e-mail to Vestor:

I just saw the video of your exchange with the former "Apprentice" contestant, Omarosa. You claimed she "threw the first grenade" (huh?) by saying "my friend". Unbelievable.

As the talk show host, you were the one who came off looking childish & petty. Sure, the audience was behind you, cheering you on by copying your mocking of Omarosa, but that's because the cards were stacked in your favor as host of the show. That doesn't make them right, either. Fox News is known for its taste for scrappy exchanges with those who don't have the same view. The behavior you exhibited as a news network "journalist" could only happen on Fox News.

And I don't even like Omarosa! Too bad you sunk to her level (actually, below her level). Worse, you're crowing about it. Don't you know the video is available and people are able to judge for themselves?

Go away, Fox News. Go away, please. Pathetic.

13. That video was played on the network news
You are right, Omarosa is a character, "The Evil Apprentice". She made a fool out of Vester, much the same way Jon Stewart :loveya: made an ass out of Tucker Carlson.

The funny thing is, Vester had no clue what an unprofessional ass she made out of herself. :eyes:

21. You are right my friend. Vestor is petty and Faux is pathetic.
And by comparision, Omarosa came out looking better (as improbable as that sounds).

23. She's been at Faux News so long, she's forgotten how a professional
behaves. And the fact that she was surrounded by an audience of lost souls didn't help her judgement.

What a sleazy network!

8. If MSNBC promoted "Countdown" the way they promote Matthews...
... viewers would get the message that the network VALUED the show enough to invest heavily in it.

10. While I like how Oberlman thinks, the Countdown format seems
restricted to a younger demographic. It moves quickly. Has a lot of flash. Talks fast. I don't know how many of the AARP set would watch it. That reduces your viewing audience. Of course Mathews has a lot of fast talking and yelling, but somehow it seems a little bit "older". That may effect ratings also.

I remember in the good old days, back when Nightline was worth watching I thought it was the only thing worth watching on RW ABC. However, they made it play past my bedtime. That always pissed me off. I was sure it was because he was the only relatively fair and balanced reporter on that station. This was before Faux news, which wrenched everybody right.

12. Trudy, when I was born, Truman was president!
KO has a broader appeal than you might think.

However, MSNBC has a responsibility to help new viewers FIND this quality show among all the others competing for their attention.

20. Well I stand corrected - somewhat! I think you are more spritely
than most who were born during Truman. My mom was until she got ill at 73. That really slowed her down. She gave up on news and financial shows and started watching the food channel. She didn't make it to the 2004 elections much to her dismay. She really wanted to live long enough to oust Bush.

My Dad, at 80, only watches the history chanel or the weather chanel. My in-laws, the younguns at only their early 60s watch FOX. Blech.

I wonder what the age brackets are for: no news viewing, public news viewing, cable/satellite news viewing. I still suspect the younger generation watches cable/satellite more. I used to be a CNN junkie until Turner sold out.

9. Unfortunately, Neocons rule the cable networks.
It's a sad fact, but this unbalanced mix has been successful and I think one of the reasons the pundits can lie and keep their job is because if anyone tried to fire them they could cry "liberal" media basis and persecution and they would have no shortage of defenders. Not to mention their honesty is only reflective of the administration they admire.

Personally, I think Matthews comes the closest to really being fair and moderate, even left(he is against Bush's empire-building wars) considering his background in Democratic politics. I like the fact he will, for the most part, challenge anyone's spin on either side of the issue. My only problem is since his show is more on serious discussions and not geared toward "theatrics" like the other pundit shows, it can be a little dry and Matthews long-winded. The only time I see his guests as predominately Right is when he has his "war council" on, which are also somewhat boring and hawkish.

I agree the rest of the Fox/MSNBC shows are far-right biased and pretty pathetic. Hannity & Colmes are the worst as far as existing only for the Morton Downey confrontation theatrics.

They pay lip service to "fair & balanced", yet they either have weak leftists like token "liberal" Alan Colmes, who refuses to challenge Sean "the smirk" Hannity's and his guest's obvious lies. It is incensing when I see right through this and knowing one word of dissent would expose the truth, yet Colmes just sits there as the Neocon dupe he is. When they do have a strong liberal within the panelists, they are always outnumbered 3-1.

Since more than half the Internet forums and blogs are likely left-leaning and liberals are making successful inroads in Neocon radio, cable is the last bastion of the Right we need to successful market.

16. Mathews comes across as a manic flip-flopper to me
The media is conservative because that is in the interest of the Corporations that own them. In addition, the right has had a strong and organized campaign to attack anyone that does not spout the RW talking points verbatim.

We are starting to get more organized and have begun to write letters to the newspapers and to the networks. This will have an effect, and it will embolden those reporters that have integrity.

19. what I'd like to see...
Let's have these right-wing jackasses put their money where their mouth is, particularly the thuggish Joe Scarborough. If he loves the red state values as he proclaims so damn much, why doesn't he do his show from, say, Alabama or Idaho or Utah or Kentucky? Why isn't he just wallowing in these beloved red-staters?

I'll tell you why he won't - because he's as big of a damn elitist as he accuses the left of being. These right-wingers look down on the idiots who buy their bullshit, and like Matthews they buy summer homes on the Cape and broadcast their shows from New York. Yes, they loooove the 'red state values' but you wouldn't find them living or working there on a bet. It's all propaganda for the Empire, nothing more.

22. GE and other corps like Kerr-McGee subsidize it...
As long as Hardball has a pro-war, pro-corporate show point of view, GE and other corps will subsidize it. It doesn't matter to them how many people actually watch the show. Remember that MSNBC/GE took Phil Donohue's higher rated show off the air because they didn't like the antiwar and liberal viewpoints.
