I hate Wal-Mart
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 10:06 AM by Stop_the_War
The Walton family are the richest in the world. And they donate to Shrub. And wal-mart clothes suck. And their factories in China pay Chinese workers about 13 cents an hour. And their Wal-Mart employees don't make much either. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! Wal-mart is engaging in economic imperialism.

27. When you post a thread or reply to one, you will see above
the subject line "Smilies lookup table." You can copy and paste the html tag.

Eventually you'll memorize some of the more useful ones.

Vomit is: colon, puke, colon with no spaces or punctuation.

This one is colonhicolon-- :hi:

3. Well, you have a fellow Wal-Mart hater here :o)
I have not for 1 year, and will not be shopping at WalMart for the rest of my life...

They are the classic representatives for the corporatization of Amerkan culture - and there is a reason they flood the Shrub with cash. People who aren't at least passively helping to take them down by not shopping there are actively supporting these people by contributing to the * coffers indirectly...

4. i hate to get all Michael Moore on you...
but Wal-Mart sold the shotgun that killed my wife's best friend. Ran a five minute background check on the guy and handed him a loaded fucking weapon.

They don't get any business from our families, that's for damn sure.

7. Yeah, you can always buy ammo
but they won't sell certain books, magazines, and music. They even restrict the kind of birth control one can buy, even with a doctor's prescription. That may be their choice as a company, but in some towns, Wal-Mart is the only place to shop. It's not an issue of being able to take your business elsewhere.

Here's a really good article on Wal-Mart and the impact they can have on the local economy:

5. The Walton Foundation run by the Walton heirs is also
one of the main anti-public education forces out there, throwing hundreds of millions of dollars around a year to promote the voucher movement and charter schools.

51. .Walmart plans to eventually 'sell' education to your children just like
they sell cheap plastic shit to us now. What they don't make on education they'll get when the kids graduate Walmart Highschools and shortly after end up in the prisons Walmart will be investing in. There's a lot of money to be made on poverty and ignorance .

9. Not to mention
How horrible the shopping experience is. It is like being in a sardine can. I almost always end up coming out of there feeling like I've been dirtied somehow. And I usually lose my temper 2 or 3 times and end up snapping at anyone who gets too close to me. I really hate Wal-Mart, but they had it under contract that they'd only open here if KMart and Roses shut down. That left us with Wal-Mart and Big Lots. That is all we have.

37. hmmm
Maybe it's something in the air ducts. I never shop at wal-mart on principle. I won't spend a dime. However, my husband received as an incentive a gift card to wal-mart. I figured since it wasn't my money, it would be okay to go there. I made sure I didn't spend any more than the card was worth (in fact there's probably about 3 bucks left on it - i threw it in the trash). I swear I left there 20 minutes later with my purchase and a splitting headache. Maybe they recognize a democrat and put something on the shopping cart that's absorbed through the skin and makes you sick. I also wonder if being surly is a requirement to the job. Grrrr.

40. On those wages, I think it's an inescapable fact. Median wages
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 12:31 PM by blondeatlast
at Brawl Mart are $8.15 an hour.

Note rthat that is the median between the highest paid and the lowest, although Brawl-Mart is boasting that it's "average" wages are over $10 an hour.

There was a thread posted earlier about this; link on edit.

46. They always mention HOURLY wages
What they don't mention is that even their full time employees don't get scheduled 40 hours a week. They generally work less than 38. Enough to be considered full-time, but not close enough to 40 that they risk working any of the dreaded OVERTIME for which Wal-mart would have to pay time and a half. That 2 or 3 hours a week adds up to hundreds, even thousands of dollars a year for people that are making not that great wages to begin with.

13. Wal Mart..
More often than not, your local governments help subsidize the construction of Wal Mart stores through building roads, tax breaks, land giveaways, or healthcare for its workers. The same Wal Mart that received local tax breaks unavailable to other businesses will squeeze local retailers into closure.

32. Well
Target stores are, for the most part, clean and uncrowded. I shop at Costco for certain things (hard to do with only two people in the house) but hate to go there because of surly and unhelpful employees, unruly crowds, and crappy shelving. The closest Walmart is really dingy (known locally at the Port-au-Prince Walmart), but they have a supercenter a little further down the road which is first class. The closest store to me other than a Publix Supermarket is a K-mart that I truly loathe. Publix is a great store even though ours is an older store. The manager lives in the neighborhood and walks to work. He employs retarded girls for carryout/cart retrieval and treats them with respect. First time I have known my corner grocer by name since growing up in Detroit in the late forties/early fifties.

28. I get physically ill after about a half-hour in Wal Mart.
I don't know if it's some cleaner they use, some product that exudes vapors or what, but on the rare occasions I go there, I'm miserable for hours afterward. Headache, dizziness, stuffy nose, hoarse throat, the works. It's not an allergy either. It's some kind of chemical sensitivity.
