Question for teachers (or maybe others).....
Is there a website that has (free) online textbooks similar to what kids currently learn? I'm mainly interested in History.

Thanks for any help.

2. I can only think of one thing
The only thing that comes to mind is MIT's OpenCourseWare at http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html . But it doesn't sound as if you're looking for college-level courses.

5. Thanks
You have pointed out an outstanding error, aside from the one I knew about. It's been fixed, but it's probably cached.

4. This site might be helpful
Or not . . .

http://textbookleague.org/

Textbooks are copyrighted, so I doubt you'll find anything free online unless it's directly from the publisher, which is damned unlikely.

6. No textbooks but...
I would suggest doing searches on the area of history your child is studying. Do it on yahooligans (yahoo's kid section) first, then yahoo, then google. I do this ofter when putting together lessons for my 8th grade students and tend to find a lot of good resources that way. IF possible your child may be able to assist in the search and get in a little research practice as well :)

7. Mr. Dowling's site
Mr. Dowling's site at http://www.mrdowling.com/

Here's an example of one of the units (Mesopotamia):

Online text at http://www.mrdowling.com/603mesopotamia.html

Download assignments and quiz at http://www.mrdowling.com/603print.html

If you want to download assignments for each unit, you just go to that unit and click on the "Download Lessons" link at the top right of each unit.
