What is it with men who become managers and cease to be anything
else? Can we please discuss something besides performance reviews and project deadlines. How about the world we're living in and how employees are treated?

4. Well I manage 10 engineers
And we talk about a lot of things. We have pizza once a month for all shifts, we talk about life, loves, politics, and generally have a good time.

I do know some managers who don't do those things, which is why my guys like working for me more then they did for them (when they did).

My motto - happy people are more productive and will watch my back more than those who are miserable.

8. good managers enable their subordinates to do their jobs
by making sure they have the training, equipment, supplies, and environment to get the job done best.

Too many managers think subordinates are there to serve them. It actually works the other way. The boss has to make sure the pieces are in place so things can happen which enhance everybody's productivity and development. Takes the ability to do task assessment, to see what it is gonna take to do the job, to order the steps so the work flows well and to keep the people humming, ride herd on the team, weed out the problem children and re-direct them or get rid of them. They reward good work and remember workers are HUMAN BEINGS who need consideration and respect.

A good manager makes a world of difference for most good workers. A good manager makes life difficult for bad workers. A bad manager makes it hard to get out of bed and go to work. Life is too short for that shit.

10. Naughty boy :).. but you ARE onto something
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 03:30 PM by SoCalDem
Our society tends to segregate people by What they Do, rather than who they ARE as a person..

Men are especially prone to identify themselves with their occupations, while women tend to identify themselves first as moms, wives and then whatever their job is:)

I guess the higher power the job, the higher the ranking :)

Maybe Dads are the Rodney Dangerfields of the family, so they identify with work.. where they can control things

11. It's called "The Peter Principle"
People tend to rise to their level of incompetence.
Dr. Peter had a book out on it a couple of decades ago.

12. I think the little brown spot on their noses
from having their faces firmly planted between the higher ups butt cheeks deprives them of oxygen and they become stupid.
