A co-worker, who used to train Forest Service workers, looked at the way he dresses (aviator shades, tiny plastic earplugs, a cowboy hat, etc.) and said that if he showed up to work on her crew like that, she would have sent him back to sit in the truck, unless he put on proper eye, ear, and head protection -- plus proper steel-toed footwear.
