Is this (Iran explosion) the Shot Heard Around the World?
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 09:41 AM by kohodog
I hope Bush wasn't stupid enough to do this. CNN says an engine fell off an Iranian Plane, but most are reporting it as a missle from an unknown plane. Russia says it was at the Nuclear Plant.

This could be a very bad day for the World.

Falling Fuel Tank May Have Caused Iran Blast - TV

22 minutes ago Top Stories - Reuters

DUBAI (Reuters) - A fuel tank falling from an Iranian plane could have caused an explosion in Iran's Bushehr province, where the country is building a nuclear power plant, Iran state television said on Wednesday.

"A local source said the explosion could have been the result of the falling of an empty fuel tank from an Iranian plane," Al-Alam said.

The Arabic-language channel also quoted other witnesses as saying that an unknown aircraft fired a missile on Wednesday in a deserted area near the southern city of Dailam, which is in Bushehr province.

wonder what really happened??? will we ever know...

9. What are the chances of a fuel tank
falling off a plane and hitting a nuclear plant? (Russia is reporting that, so I want to qualify that statement. It is too early for us to really know where it hit).

Time to buy a couple of Lotto tickrets in that case.

13. If it was an EMPTY fuel tank
how the hell can it "fall" from an airplane and EXPLODE? What a coinkydink that it was near a nuclear plant. I fear that we are really fucked. I wonder what spin shrub & crew will put on it. God help us all.

17. Senators wouldn't necessarily know about this
anymore than they would have known about Iran/Contra.

According to Seymour Hersh:

...The war on terrorism would be expanded, and effectively placed under the Pentagon’s control. The President has signed a series of findings and executive orders authorizing secret commando groups and other Special Forces units to conduct covert operations against suspected terrorist targets in as many as ten nations in the Middle East and South Asia.

The President’s decision enables Rumsfeld to run the operations off the books—free from legal restrictions imposed on the C.I.A. Under current law, all C.I.A. covert activities overseas must be authorized by a Presidential finding and reported to the Senate and House intelligence committees. (The laws were enacted after a series of scandals in the nineteen-seventies involving C.I.A. domestic spying and attempted assassinations of foreign leaders.) “The Pentagon doesn’t feel obligated to report any of this to Congress,” the former high-level intelligence official said. “They don’t even call it ‘covert ops’—it’s too close to the C.I.A. phrase. In their view, it’s ‘black reconnaissance.’ They’re not even going to tell the cincs”—the regional American military commanders-in-chief. (The Defense Department and the White House did not respond to requests for comment on this story.)

14. Think about it - falling off? How many a/c have outside tanks? Is that
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 10:02 AM by higher class
common assuming they mean a commercial a/c? This sounds weird to me. The engines dangle - the fuel tanks are on the interior. I don't get it. Does anyone have a reference? There are main tanks on the interior and isn't it true that an a/c can be fitted for auxiliary tanks that sit in the cargo compartment?

20. Bush and Co. don't make me breathe easy but
certainly Iran talks out of all four sides of their mouth. Perhaps they had an 'accident' at their plant and are covering it up. Wouldn't be the first time..... but it could be the beginning of the end.

IMO, both would have fired multiple missiles from multiple planes. Hopefully things will de-escalate rather than explode into another war.

28. Naw... this is just a little provocation...
..the Iranians didn't take the bait, though.

Sure it was a US missile, but the Iranians aren't ready to be invaded, so they didn't react militarily. Instead they disclaim knowledge that it was us.

Donald will have to try again with something a little more provocative.

Nice try, though. If only wars were that easy to start, eh, Donald?
