tactics used to drive a conservative reporter from his job? excuse me?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A27730-2005Feb15.html

...this from today's washington post, by Howie Kurtz.....

The X-rated twist has made for a lot of clandestine clicking in a town where Deep Throat conjures images not of a porn star but of a man in a parking garage. But it has also deepened the debate over blogging and the tactics used to drive a conservative reporter from his job as White House correspondent for two Web sites owned by a Republican activist.

In most Beltway melodramas, the resignation ends the story. The problem for Gannon, whose real name is James Dale Guckert, is that he told The Washington Post and CNN's Wolf Blitzer last week that he never launched the Web sites whose provocative names he had registered, such as hotmilitarystud.com. But a Web designer in California said yesterday that he had designed a gay escort site for Gannon and had posted naked pictures of Gannon at the client's request.

The latest developments were first reported by John Aravosis, a liberal political consultant and gay activist who has a Web site called americablog.org. "What struck me initially was the hypocrisy angle," Aravosis said. He said he was offended by what he called Gannon's "antigay" writing.

........howie is accusing bloggers of character assasination of a reporter, HOWIE, GANNON IS A FAKE REPORTER, and no one is persecuting him out here in cyberspace over nothing. the man is a fake fucking reporter working for the white house and c.i.a.

and howie is the one that seems to have taken the story to the mainstream media, what the hell?

2. Digby has an excellent response to the gay bashing charge.

It's the lead story over at Buzzflash today.

(snip)

"pay no attention to the naked gay conservative male prostitute sitting in the middle of the family values white house living room."

(snip)

When the wingnuts complain about how we hate gays, just say "No I don't. And clearly, neither do you. But James Dobson does. Let's go have a chat with him, ok?"

It might just force some of these chickenshit libertarians and GOP urbanites to show their true colors and get some GOP parents and siblings of gay people to face up to what they are doing. Can anyone believe that there is no value in showing the country that many of the highest level Republicans in the Bush Administration are actually quite tolerant of gays? Doesn't that move our agenda forward?

I don't believe that we advance the cause of gay rights by allowing the right to have it both ways, which they clearly do. We have a tittilating tabloid story, replete with nude pictures and prostitution, that illustrates the fact that they are merely pandering to the religious right on this issue. It would be too bad if we are too squeamish to pursue it because that is exactly what the other side is counting on.

The point is, if a gay prostitute with no real credentials could get access to the "morals" administration why can't anyone? Why can't Randi Rhodes go ask Bush and Scottie questions? Everyone who can buy a $50 journalism degree should have equal access.

4. Has there been an investigation into...
this liar's claim that his family was stalked or whatever? I want to see that BS put to rest, along with his bogus career.

5. What "reporter?" what "job?"
that said, did we ever imagine this story would enter the Corporate Media in any other fashion?

6. I see you mentioned the CIA.
Gannon/Guckert is supposed to be an ex-Marine. The CIA does indeed recruit heavily among military/ex-military. And it is well-known that the CIA has owned whole news companies. (What was it called... Operation Mockingbird?)

I don't really care, as long as people here and elsewhere keep showing up the LYING and CHEATING of this administration, of which the Gannon/Guckert affair is just the latest manifestation.
